engine pinking ?

hello all i have mk2 v6 when i accelarate hard in say 4th our 5th . i get a rattling noise from the engine .sounds like its pinking can this happen with an ecu?

Hi I have no idea about pinking but dose it do it when cold/not moving could be the water pump as mine made a simelar sound

What petrol are you running on ?

Could be the under tray or exhaust shields.

the noise is just when you put your foot down. i put normal unleaded on long motorway runs , and super unleaded for the sunday blast

use super ALL the time mate...think about an octane booster as well... the pinking sensor only can adjust a few degrees instantly.
you could melt a piston if it pinks a lot..
our fuel in the uk is a joke... [smilie=evil.gif]

jesus i dont want to melt a piston ,trying to save a few quid on a tank of petrol thank you all for the feed back. looking foward to sunny days in my vee

you fuel consumption will be better on the higher octane anyway mate...so you won't spend any more on fuel....in theory!!
