Engine mounts

I think mine might have worn/broken but not being very mechanically minded or have experience with things like this I am just wondering if the symptoms match up with the problems and if any are visible.

Basically at low speed if I dip the clutch the whole car shakes and sounds like the engine rocks.

I am going to be taking it in to a garage soon but just wondering if anyone as any sort of experience with this, did a quick search but wasn't much about it on the forum.

There is loads of transmission slack in the PK6 gearbox, which can make the car feel uneven at low speed, but it could be the upper and lower engine steady's that have worn allowing the engine to rock back and forth, i would not think its the main engine mounts as the engine just hangs from these.

Are these visible? It's getting worse gradually so this is what is leading me to believe that it's some sort of mount. It's only really noticible in 1st and 2nd when changing gear or coming off the accelerator when driving slow.

Hi

top one goes from the top of the cylinder head forwards into a box section behind the drivers seat, you will need to remove the engine cover and proberly the main outer cover to see it, the lower one is above the lower engine under tray, again drivers side between the engine and the mount near the exhaust.

Remove both covers and drive the car with them off and see how much it's moving about, you will only need a couple of minutes driving as it will get hot and smelly in the cabin otherwise.

both items are V6 only i think, check there all bolted up tight, i think you could have a problem removing the top one if you need to get it out, as it needs to be fitted in the box section before you fit the engine.

good luck

Steve

Sorry to revive a dead thread, Steve could you expand on "see how much it moving about"?

What is a normal amount of movement?

Cheers, Ben
