Engine / Gearbox Oil for Mk1 - Recommendations?

Getting a man in to do an engine oil and gearbox oil change on the Vee. Got the filter and sump plug washer from Renault, no bother. I know for the gearbox I need Elf TRP 75w80 - but where can I get that from? My local Renault place just said they didn't sell oil because they only have it in bulk. I suspect she just assumed and didn't know it was special or something. Anyway, they wouldn't sell me any heh.

And for the engine, I have searched, and looked in the technical manual - seems to recommend 15/30 - that seems a bit thick to me? I've only found answers relating to the Mk2 through a search.

Any advice greatly appreciated - does anyone do the gearbox oil mail order? Scott? Clarkie?

i believe clarkie has the Elf TRP for sale(i read from some post?)

I havent use the Elf one for gear box, i switched to redline
as for engine oil, thought it was 5w40? i m using Motul 8100 5w40 right now...
 
I took out my owner manual, and it seems 5w40 is the way forward - although it implies you're good with pretty much any grade really heh. So, 5.5 litres of 5w40 Fully Synth with do I reckon - I'm feeling Silkolene from Opieoils.co.uk. I'll get a PM sent to Clarkie now :)

I used engine flush, followed by slick 50 then silkolene 5w40. Defo noticed a difference as the engine felt freer revving.

There is an elf oil for the box that peolpe say is specifically for this gearbox but when I asked the Renault dealer out here in Hong Kong they said that their technical department phoned France and advised that they could use Shell instead - as they can't get Elf out here anyways! So I'm going to change the box oil to Slick 50 first, then Silkolene SynTran 5.

Davilamb - you changed to redline did it make any difference to the gearchange / gearbox noise? Plus I've pm'd you as thinking of going to the drift meet on 06/01/08!
 
I've sourced the Elf TRP from Clarkie (well, he sells it, I just need to buy it now - and I don't know if he posts to HK, you'll have to ask heh) and I've ordered 6l of Silkolene 5w40 Pro stuff from OpieOils.co.uk on this sites recommendation :)

Received my TRP from Clarkie (Carlton Garage) today, top service, very friendly guys on the end of the phone too :) And I was wrong, it's available in 1ltr bottles it seems, cos I only had to buy 3l and not the 4l I originally thought.

Recommended to all.
