Door Bits (inserts / grabs / holder)

Rossington

New Member
Hey guys, my Mk1 door bits are a teeny bit tatty although its more my OCD.

Two questions :

1) Does any body know the part code?

2) If they are unavailable to buy, does anybody know how to remove them so I could have them repainted? I've had a look and there's no screw or anything, just a sort of small black circle thing.

Quick note, im referring to the silver coloured parts in with the door cart where your window buttons and mirror adjust nob are.

Thanks.
Ross

Hi Ross, I don't have a part number for you unfortunately but what I can tell you is that little black circle thing is a screw cap that simple prises off to reveal the retaining screw underneath, you just need to remove this and unclip the wire connectors for the window and mirror switches and you can then remove the door pulls.

I re-furbished my door pulls in 2013 as can be seen halfway through this old thread: LINK

There is quite a bit of information in there, hopefully it will be of some use to you.

- Will.

Another member recently bought a pair of new door pull/grabs to replace his.. expecting to get some nice silvery coated new ones, he was disappointed to receive just unfinished plastic items.

I'd sugest you just refurb your own, or get a spare set to refurb from a 172. :salut:

Yep, they only come as a pair at horrendous cost (nearly £200 IIRC) from Renault and why do they only come as a pair? Because they don't match the originals and would look odd if only one were changed. They are matt silver colour and not textured in that rubbery coating as the originals were and will no longer match the centre console. I would try the refurbish route as in the other threads but don't start with the originals as the covering is difficult to remove and any scratches in the plastic will show up after painting.
Part number by the way is 7701206594 * edit, see my post below before splashing out.

I completely muffed up 1 of mine trying to refurb it, took it right back to the plastic, was a tad over enthusiastic & left quite deep sanding marks in it due to the unwieldy shape & crevices( I used various sizes of wet n dry right down to 2000 grit ) so it's practically impossible to get back to a good condition despite many many coats of paint, so I'd advise anyone doing their's to just remove the plastics/rubberised coating, give it a light key & then repaint. I've ordered a replacement set from a scrapped 172 to try my hand @ refurb again !. Scrapped replacements were only €25.

The long running saga of my ph1 door pulls goes on, despite having paid way over the top for genuine items (that don't match the originals read my post above), despite even a discount for them arriving damaged, I just tried to fit them and the window switches wont fit in the aperture for them. The profile is completely wrong and they also have a divide between the switches which the originals didn't.

That's just daft. I'd send them back as not fit for purpose Mark and get your money back.

I bought a pair of 172 pulls from a wreckers for £20, and they are identical to my originals....nearly. The only difference is that they are not covered in the rubbery stuff, so painting (Ford Moondust Silver) should be nice and easy.

Are they off a 197 or something? Even the 182 door pulls are interchangeable as far as I'm aware, but as you say.. the pull part is even different :help:

Looks like you got a silver ph2 door grab (same shape)
:/
Send them back and tell them to get you the ph1 pulls!

Seems to be same partno. dialogys comes up with.
Have you checked if the partno. on the doorgrab is the same?
....Its definately a ph2 grab in silver!
