Well, i've decided to go to DMS (advertise in Evo Mag) & i'm getting an ecu upgrade later this week. They claim 28-30bhp & better/smoother power delivery. I'll let you all know of the real results when the car is finished.

I've always be interested to know what they did to detune the 255!? Claim I've heard is that it was good for 280-ish but they tweaked it down to improved reliability :-?.

28-30bhp !!!!!!

I'm paying £10 k for the same bhp increase.

Please do let us know.

JEEZ!!!!! what are you getting done????

If I really knew I would tell you in detail lol.

The spec essentially for the engine is

Custom intake trumpets under pent roof alloy plenum

High lift Cams

Omex 710 Fuel management

Larger injectors

Manifold matching

Custom exhaust system with no cats

Custom spec suspension for high speed work

Goodridge Braided brake lines to make sure you stop

Colour coded calipers with uprated pads

Racelogic Traction Control

New Alpine head unit and Fusion speakers

i got 50 - 75 bhp with nos for 500 quid...and you can switch it off if you don't want to be a racer.... :D
mad man!!! i did think about it, but i would want to use it all the time

Hope the people who are doing the work for you will be good enough to check valve to piston crown clearance?
The standard V6 255 runs h.c. pistons with close clearances.
It has been found that long duration openings on the cams worked better than high lift as the std valve durations and intake air flow are slow.
Longer trumpets are from Trophy racer engine I presume?
In which case you will need the smaller throated intake passages in the heads to increase induction speeds.
Also if you are going with thottle bodies then you cannot run wireless throttle pedal as std car.
IMO - All the work on engine & ecu changes are only meaningful if you have a baseline print from a data logger or dyno before and after.

Thanks for that info Hog.

I have put the car in the hands of GDI. Been with Cliosport since day one 5 years ago and not yet read anything negative about this company. OK the odd inpatient customer maybe, (a lot of this stuff isn't on the shelf in Halfords lol), but only ever seen big happy faces from their customers.

Their instructions were "A wee bit nippier please". If it is then I will be a happy bunny.

Custom intake trumpets under pent roof alloy plenum £500

High lift Cams £800

Omex 710 Fuel management £500

Larger injectors £600

Manifold matching £200

Custom exhaust system with no cats £1800

Custom spec suspension for high speed work £1300

Goodridge Braided brake lines to make sure you stop £100

Colour coded calipers with uprated pads £2000 for AP 6 pots

Racelogic Traction Control £300

New Alpine head unit and Fusion speakers £500

Not knocking gdi at all but in the interests of free speech and spending wisely

Open the standard ECU (joules electronics), stick an Orbisound Exhaust on, Remap the thing (larger injectors may not be needed as the standard ones are only mapped at about 70% duty cycle, stick a Mk2 plenum and 72mm throttle body on, piper cams, set of KW dampers, new pads (6 pots are trackwork only really), dump the traction control as the clutch will slip anyway and if it doesn't the diff will pop out of the gearbox!!
This will make about 275/80bhp and have improved throttle response and save you about £4k.
Leave the stereo at home as you won't here it with the new exhaust!

Christ you can get an exchange engine fron Huger in france making 300bhp for less than £3.5k plus exhaust and inlet, assuming a decent ecu.

There its off my chest now

Back to the bar

Mike

Interesting figures Mike. Thanks

It already is a MK2 I wonder if that will make any difference?

I was going to have throttle bodies but the ones which were developed were completely useless unfortunately :(

I agree somewhat with Mike, as he is trying to impart his expensive experiences of going down this route.
Newman long duration cams are approx £660. Which I have installed in the new engine and I thought Mike had fitted in his [or is that Tim's rebuilt engine]?
Ph 2 breathes better than Ph 1 through the manifold changes and you can run Porsche throttle valve if you get the plenum chamber modified.
But don't know if this will work with a replotted standard ECU.
Both Mike and I are using Motec ECU.
Should have the dynamometer print-out from this set-up soon as the engine is ready to go on the dyno [at last]
It is in the interests of everybody to keep these posts coming in to the forum.
Either positive or negative and we would like to hear what the piggybacking of a DMS ECU achieved?

It's mine (Tim), that has the Newman cams now. Should be mapping this coming week but won't get on the dyno 'til early next year. Figures when available.
Full engine spec:
Mk1 engine
Mk2 development plenum/throttle body
Larger injectors
Trophy coils
NGK plugs
KTec (Janspeed) full exhaust system decatted
Motec M800 ECU
Motec mini dash
Pipercross EVO filter
Newman cams
Mk2 Gearbox
Direct Port Nitrous 100bhp
Trophy Twin TB plenum to be fitted......soon

KW V3 coilovers
Front and rear anti-roll bars
MK2 Subframe rear
MK2 suspension trailing arms rear
Compomotive RL 18" 5 spokes
Trophy spoilers Front and rear
etc

Well, got the ecu upgrade, & the difference on my Mk1 is very impressive!! :smt003 .
Throttle response is excellent, smoother pick up, more mid range & much better top end (revs easily to 7k). I can't believe the difference. The car will pull in 5th from 1000rpm, without hesitation at all. Not sure how much power it really gives, but from a drivability point of view its fantastic. With my exhaust & bmc kit, they've tailored the ecu for my engine & done a top job.
I'm gonna try & get it on a rolling road soon, & see how much i've got. If you've got a spare few hundred pounds, go to DMS.
