How many people do their own geo using oldskool methods i.e. stringline ? Hints and tips ? Been reading up online and does not seen too bad to do.

I bought a TrackAce for tracking, it does OK considering. I use it to get me by until my mate can take the car to his work and use the seventy grand laser thing for free hahaha :)

I have considered buying a similar setup that would do if accurate. I can get mates rates on the local hunter anlignment but its still dear as i need to take every car there at least once a year. Im planning on playing about with spring ratings on the van and that will require geo done every time which could be eye watering price wise.

The trackace is for tracking, it doesnt do caster, camber or anything like that. I'm lucky my tame tyre friend like Chocolate, much like my tame Carb rebuild friend LOL :D

Camber looks a doddle to set to be fair using some basic maths. I have used the old garage light setups for setting tracking before. Depends if i can get my hands in to adjust the tie rod on the deck lol

I wasted so much money getting "motorsport" people to set the car up. We wrecked a brand new tyre on one set up !!!!!
Lots of people I know use string all the time, I use now and again just to make sure everything is pointing in the right direction.
I decided to buy Camber gauge, one of my best investments from Ebay :) luckily my mate gave me some tracking gauges, which we use all the time.
A good flat floor is a must also.
Once you have some basic settings, you can have a play.
So much time to be had on a well set up car........sorry van :)

What toe settings do you use David ?? I have read that different settings give better turn in - i have only ever used stock settings. I think im going to invest in some tracking gauges to set the toe. Camber gauge eventually too but for now will use a level and a bit of maths to get me away:D my garage is pretty flat so should be close enough hopefully.

We run 3mm toe out, 1mm toe in the rear.
Probably start at half that and see how it feels. You have to play around to see what suits you and car/van
Quite a lot on the front for us but like it.
Tried other "recommended" settings and a struggle to get sharp turn in.

I got my digital camber gauge for £50
So keep your eyes peeled.
We run 2.5 neg camber but have nearly 5 degrees castor.
Again got to have a play mate to see what suits you.
