crap radio reception

OK, being over 40 I still use the radio on my phase 2 v6 then the 6 disc thing and only when my teenage sons are in the car they plug some thing in that only bill gates and a teenager can work.
The multiplay and Aux work fine, the radio (my first choice) has crap reception, the tuner can find stations but it comes and goes and is never clear.
Does the aerial mount have some kind of booster in it for the radio or is it a phone prep thing, must have something as its £100?
Has anyone had a similar problem and fixed it?

Hi Mark and welcome to the club :approve:

I've searched the whole forum and found only one mention of radio reception (8 years ago!) LINK

Aerial base has telephone and GPS in it. There was a suggestion of just using a standard Clio aerial if you're not bothered about it looking non standard.

Why does the aerial have GPS in it? and how would you access it or is it just for the tracker maybe? (if so how come the ph1 does not have this yet still has a tracker? and perfect radio reception on a ph1 Btw.

have a question about DAB but will start a new thread for it. here

It seems to be the same aerial base used on 182's aand Traffic vans with sat nav, perhaps the GPS part of serves the sat nav in some way?

yeah get that James, sat nav was never an option was it? just a case of using the parts bin I guess. Interesting to know if it is functional and powered up or not and may be the cause of the much discussed sat nav issues some people have with ph11's but not with ph1's? Also is there a lead for it in the dash somewhere that those with sat nav probs could connect to?

I was told there are wires drivers side behind gear lever, maybe for the phone stuff, they call pre telephone equipped. (PH2 brochure)

When I changed my aerial gasket there was a couple of wires on the aerial base just doing nothing.

Stuff about reception.

The display shows the radio reception information if you press buttons 1 and 6 simultaneously: 9 or letter: good reception–if 3: poor signal–if 2: no stereo
testing the buttons To enter this mode, press button 3 and the on/off button at the same time. Every time a button is pressed, it will appear on the display. The mode exits automatically once all the buttons have been pressed.
