Coil virgin no more..!

Had my 1st coil go last night - just jumped in newly detailed & waxed pride and joy to pop to the local watering hole. It's only 1.5 miles away but had the dreaded engine management light flash several times, then stay on accompanied by all the usual symptoms - Firing on 5 instead of 6 and distinct loss of power. As it was only another half a mile to the pub I carried on, parked up & called the A.A. (roadside rescue, not the 'Ive got a drink problem' people) :)
AA man came within the hour - got him a coffee from the pub and he asked for me to lift the bonnet.... now you should have seen his face when I did. Genuinely he scratched his head in amazement  then asked where the engine was. 'In the back mate.' [smilie=yay.gif] Then there was 'Did you fit the kit yourself?' - Er, no it's a standard car. Getting funny by now as I'd had a couple of pints..!
He immediately removed the ashtray, plugged his thingy in and told me it was no. 4 coil. Result - that's the one closest on the left when you look from behind. 10 mins later he's replaced the coil, cancelled the fault code etc and all is good in V land.
Purpose of telling you this is that I was prepared - thanks to the £10 membership of this forum, I took the advice and had 2 coils with me together with necessary tools, small torch and know how to replace. Also AA memembership which is a must for these cars.
So thanks Guys, it's paid for itself already [smilie=thanks.gif]

I'd get some pretty quick as you might pop your vee down a country lane in the middle of nowhere and AA/RAC no longer carry spare renault coil packs ;)

I've had 2 go. After the second one, I learnt my lesson and now carry a spare and hope it one of the 3 accessible coils on the phase 1.

Both look fine on the links. Don't think there is any benefit in buying the more expensive one over standard though pal. Don't forgot mini tool kit in boot with ratchet,mp extends bar and 8mm socket. :approve:

Already sorted that out ;)

AND... don't forget a small torch - you can break down at night and it's dark enough peering into the boothatch at black coloured coils anyway

After six weeks of Clio V6 ownership and having travelled a total of about 300 miles I had my first coil failure yesterday afternoon.
Fortunately I was only about a mile from home so limped back without any problems. It turns out number 6 coil was the guilty party but all easily fixed this morning with a spare coil.
Unfortunately I was displaying the Clio at the Wanborough Village Show here in Wiltshire and the car sounded very ropey on the way out of the car park, luckily the sound of a struggling 5 cylinder Clio V6 was muffled by the sound of half a dozen Harley Davidsons exiting at the same time so I wasn't too embarrassed.

Now it is time to order some more spare coils.

I had the same problem - coil went (after 2 years of ownership) just as we were setting of from home en route to Kimbolton, so decided to upgrade to Trophy Coils: LINK
