Help!

Just about to leave for Kimbolton and had a coil go (lumpy idling and check engine light come on). Anybody close to Hillingdon (Middlesex area who has a spare?

Thanks a million!

Sorry cant help, I was afraid this would happen to me on the way to kimbolton. I'm here without a hiccup from the vee. Sorry :(
I really need to carry a few spares!

Thanks for the offer Russo. Decided to ditch the Vee and make the trip in my wife's A3 instead so I will be parked up in the public car park.

First failure - will definitely go for Trophy coils as I don't want to deal with the hassle.

See you all tomorrow

Got my trophys fitted recently by the dealer - piece of cake and somehow with the connectors sent no soldering of wires :) they said same labour as normal OEM

Defo worth feel much heavier because they have better heat protection packing than the OEM

Plus the car feels better throttle response and power right through to the redline than before

Email Magny courses but note they take a while to reply though so you might want fit an OEM whilst your waiting - took 4 weeks to get mine shipped out

But you can't go wrong at 25 euros each which is cheaper than the OEM :)

Think we need more info on this or perhaps a group buy if possible!

Indeed I should have Ben, but since it was Saturday evening I tried contacting those who were attending Kimbolton. Thanks for the offer, which I will certainly take up next time.

Received these today - made by SAGEM, but seems solid enough to withstand the heat but will certainly add some weight to the overall weight of the Vee, and hopefully no more coil failures :approve:

Where did they come from?? Migny Courses???

I was looking at getting a set and modding my spare inlets to accept the trophy items. Let us know how you go on fitting them Dulan.

Indeed Russo. Euro 179 shipped for the set so no brainer really - and hopefully will not have to worry about further failures. Trying to book the Vee into Scott's to have them installed ASAP.

How did you find dealing with them? Long drawn out process when I got a couple Croms from them ;)

Once you get over the hurdle of communicating only in French (thanks to Google translator), things were fine - at the end of the day I was the one who raised so many questions in order to make sure that the coils were fit for purpose, by double checking with Scott, and making sure that they actually will ship exactly the same coils as shown in the photographs and that they had a set of six in stock etc.

When it came to placing the order, I wired the funds on Saturday (20th), received confirmation (and tracking number) on Wednesday (24th), and the package arrive today (26th), so pretty quick.

Good to know [smilie=thanks.gif] again, Dulan.

Wonder how many they have in stock? Did they buy all the unused stock after the end of Trophy build or something?
My only problem is, if you buy 6 trophy coils and one goes ( not that they should!! ) could you use a mix of standard and trophy?

Or do you buy 8 to be on the safe side

Didn't ask how many they had in stock, and I certainly hope they last a long time, and they certainly seem like they will. I understand that the standard coils fail due to (excessive) heat cracking the (plastic?) casing which prevent the spark plug firing, causing a misfire.

Looking at a Trophy Coil one can clearly see that the casing is much thicker/tougher, so one can assume that they will last significantly longer than a standard coil.

From the photos above, do the connectors look as if they will take the standard leads (I haven't checked them for size as yet)? In a previous post (above) Wongy stated that no additional re-wiring was required. If so, the only work required would be to tap a second screw/bolt to secure it in place.

As regards, mixing the two types I am not sure, so getting a spare or two may be prudent.

Yeap those are the right coils - I bought 12 just I'm case since they are only 30 quid each

They also gave me connectors which the dealer fitted without soldering but Scott might do different

Note the weight is much heavier because of more protective packing. They are also longer so there will be a gap between cylinder head when bolted in but my dealer put a washer in to fill the gap

Also didn't bother tap a second hole since the OEM ones only have a single bolt

Let us know if you feel a difference performance wise as I think there is though could just be placebo effect

Thanks for the confirmation - will certainly provide an update once I have them installed. Indeed, they look much beefier than the standard items, and a lot heavier! As such, do they sit okay with a single bolt? Scott recommended that we tap a second, but I would rather not make changes to the OEM components if I don't have to.

As regards, the connectors, are you able to post some photographs up of the ones you received? Thanks.

I've drafted a wiki will send to James this week to post - got some photos though dealer did them and didn't give too many trade secrets away?!

I asked Migny for the connectors so ill photo them in the car. Dealer said they had a tool to extract the old pins and simply slot into the converter

There is a second hole just no thread and as you'll see when you bolt in there is a gap between the coil bolt bracket and cylinder head. I called Scott cos thought got wrong coils! But he checked and the size was the same just he'd never noticed. Could be why they do two bolts vs my dealer just added a washer between the coil and cylinder head on the OEM to make more secure

Apologies for late replies and sending update on this been working in Japan so just back to HK this week to send the doc off to James :)

I've just been in the loft and got a couple of pics of the original coil connectors :approve:
