Does it go into gear from neutral with the engine running?
yes mate ,,,,,,,everything seems normal untill you let clutch out to go and then nothing.(as if its not in gear)

A guy i can recommend in nottingham Steve Lacey, works out of cavendish service station, nottingham.
i will p.m. to pass your number on if you wish, i he cannot do it he can get the work done at another independant he works for.
I honestly trust this guy and you wont get shafted, he is straight up, blunt, but straight up.

Does the Vee have the same circlip set up on the diff like the early 172/182"s

They had the problem of spitting them out and causing no drive.

to be honest first thing i said to my brother(who was with me) was its the diff/final drive.......also RAC bloke asked me to "pull bonnet" and walked to front of car. He also thought it was a body kit! (supose it is really)

Sorry to hear about the issue, Martin. [smilie=icon_aaargh.gif]
Clutches are one of the weak points on the Vee. Once it's sorted, you'll be happy once again (keep the faith!)

Many get the clutch changed at the Cambelt Service. I delayed my Cambelt service until year 7, but made sure the clutch was changed at that point (at 13k miles).
Unfortunately, it's an engine-out job (if that's deemed to be the cause). The parts are cheapish - but the labour ain't.
IMO any engine-out job needs to be done by a specialist. :approve:

cheers .I had cambelt done at 17k at maindealer and they said" there is no way you need a cluch with that milage".........i did think that sounded right to be honest...

If it is driveshaft can you tell by having it in gear and if one of rear wheels still turns its popped a drive shaft?

we had gone 2 mile (max) with car on lorry when i had a call from trafficmaster asking if i knew my car was "being moved , without keys in ignition"....IMPRESSED BY THAT!

Could be drive shaft/circlip related. Had this on my Williams, in the end I could change a driveshaft circlip in 20mins on the side of the road, went 4 times in a year until I got it spot welded ;)

cheers mate ill see whats said on here over next few days (i never use it so no rush) maybe a option ...cheers

Looking at the gearbox section the diff is held in with a circlip and not the bolted through type, thats where i'd look first.

Hope it's something simple...

Could have done if the 'box was fitted with a locked diff. With an open diff one of the wheels are always free to turn though.

My first throught was the driveshaft circlips, but if you said it was slipping the last couple of times that sounds a bit suspect.

a/ No it's not common to go at such low mileage
b/ About £800

Not a clutch issue. gearing would grate and not engauge iif the clutch was knackerd

But something in the transmission is not right. sounds like a drive shaft cir-clip to me.
