Clutch

Well after over 2.5 years of no issues appart from the odd coil failure the damn clutch has gone tonight :( was just reversing it into its little hiding hole on the drive and the pedal went really light, stopped it and now it won't engage gears when the engine is on......well at least its parked up safe for the night, god only knows how i will move it from its location though - its bad enough when the little fecker works!!

Any body know the cost of clutches? I know its an engine out job, got a couple of garages using there calculates now with big :) on there faces......

how near are you to needing your cambelt doing? might be worth doing the lot at same time. However I had my engine out for cambelt etc a couple of months ago and we looked at doing clutch at same time. Decided not to bother as i'd spent enough. The lad who did all work for me though reckoned should be able to do clutch without taking engine out, just dropping rear subframe and tilting over slightly. The garage who did it for me is'nt really far from you depends if you dont mind travelling a bit, i'd recommend them, hope this helps

ah yeah SG Motorsport did the Cambelt back in Feb 07 so that doesn't need doing again. Got a local garage that i have used before - awaiting a call for a quote tomorrow morning......

Does anybody know if the clutch kit has a part number? Checked wikki but each piece appears to have a different part number and no kit listed.

Rob this doesn't sound like clutch to me, more like low fluid levels or faulty slave or master cylinder preventing the clutch from dis-engaging.

Check the levels first as the reservoir is shared with the brakes and the level can drop below the clutch master cylinder outlet and so get air in the system causing the pedal to goto the floor with no ability to engage gears ...

Thanks martin, will have a look tomorrow at some point.Fingers crossed

Also check the clutch pipe in the engine bay - it goes from the bulkhead into the front side of the gearbox e.g. left front side of gearbox there is a pipe and T-union into the box.

Mine had a leak so replaced it in time but know that another member did not spot the leak which meant he eventually lost clutch pressure, so think its a common fault.

Well its hopefully being collected tomorrow by the AA and taken to a local garage i have used before. Its going to be fun getting it out of its space as it takes me a 5 point turn normally when its running.....god only knows how we will push it up the slight incline on full lock.
