Clunk noise - help please

Hi all,

no biggy - but when I reverse out of my drive and turn on full lock there is a clunky noise, then when I correct the steering and drive off, it clunks again. It's fine when driving.

Any idea's ?

Not really high priority.

I'm not thinking lower steering column, I think possibly anti-roll bar bushes, lower wish bone or ball joint - I just don't know how to 'test' them.

Lower ball joint, jack up front (obviously) hands at 12 & 6 ,pushing with one and pulling with the other, shouldn't feel any movement.

Whip wheels off, pry bar in near roll bar bushes and see how much movement there is. I doubt that would be the cause of the noise unless you have massive camber yO! Coming off your drive

Bottom balljoint, track rod end, suspension topmount, topmount bearing are your prime candidates.

If it clongs when you're turning the steering look at the topmounts first, if it clunks when you take up drive look at the balljoints first.

Ive got the same issue, feel a turning sensation through the steering wheel when cornering and coming upto roundabouts, sometimes that 'clunk' noise too. Possible splay in top mounts?
I really couldn't get the feel of that @ car swap over the weekend, it was a little noticeable, but I guess you need to be driving it normally for a good while to pick up on it. Might be time for some TNT suspension wiggling.

I had a similar problem with the wifes old Peugeot 307. All the bits are cheap as chips to replace. I did ball joints which were a fiver each, track rod ends which were also a fiver. Replaced the anti roll bar bushes.... and the clunk was still there. In the end it was the top mounts on the struts. Cheap part again, but a bit of a pain to do as you have to remove the strut from the car, compress the spring and get the old top mounts off. On the 5 turbo its not bad as the bolts holding the top of the strut are easy to get to. On the 307 it was a mission as the top of the strut is miles under the front window screen.

Ah lol well just need new bearings & top hats which are probably the main culprits, I have everything else in my parts stash! cant help thinking its driveshaft related, TNT suspension wiggle sesh very soon! ;-)
