cloudy head light lens

New Member
Hi all.
Any one one here experienced there head light lens going a bit kinda cloudy over time?? It only seems to be the n/s one that has done this on my mk1 vee. Could any one recommend a good window/ plastic polish compound that might bring it back to a clear glass look?? Other wise i might buy a new pair of fronts if no joy.
ps.
Its days like today i really like ownership of a vee cause god it looks good in the sun. thanks jimm. :)

Polishing headlights has been mentioned few times on the forum. I chose to replace the lamps.

Both of mine did the same and nothing I tried worked ,so ended up replacing them ,makes a big difference and well worth doing :approve:

I polished mine up after buying the car...tbh they weren't that bad but they were little bit cloudy.

Took some effort but they have come up virtually like new.

I used Meguiars Plastic X :approve:

I did one of mine with a rotary and some Gtechniq p1 polish...I then applied a couple of layers of sealant to maintain the UV protection

Got some photos somewhere, will upload and show before and after...

i have a good polisher so i will try some plastic compound and let you know the results !! thanks jimm

I did mine on my Ph1 172.

They were very hazy.

I started with 1200 grit, wet/dry to remove the worst of the hazing. Ideally I could have done with something even more abrasive to start as it took a VERY long time to remove. I then followed with 1500 wet/dry and 2000 wet/dry sandpaper. Then I used Megs Scratch X to removed the marks left by sanding. I then finished with Super Resin Polish.

I think to complete both it took about 3.5 hours as they were really quite bad!

As James said, we fitted new complete items to replace some cr** Halo Chav lights that came with it. What a transformation!

I'm sure we only paid c.£70 each for them through Scott.

^^ This.

Wet sand and then a polish with a DA (unless you've got arms like Popeye) will make them look good as new. Remember to apply a UV film afterwards like laminex or similar as wet sanding removes the protective UV coating.

Fab replies thank you . i will hopefully get some time to do this very soon but having a new born about tends to take up my time at the moment lol good result with a bit of effort . [smilie=thanks.gif] jimm .
