Cleaning plastic parts?

Heard somewhere that if you want to clean up, say, a header tank or pas tank. The best way it to bung them in a dishwasher. Anyone tried this?dont want to try incase it fecks up the machine or the parts

Yeah, I have heard that too. Not tried it though as I would literally get castrated if my Mrs found out I had put car parts in the dishwasher.

Yep done that, and was castrated by the Mrs, didn't work to boot.
ended up using hot caustic solution and leaving it to soak hour or so, then good rinse, also helped by using a bottle brush, came up near new.

My missus cut my balls off years ago for a lesser offence so ive nothing to lose.hahaa.all that scrubbing sounds like too much work,might try them in the washing machine instead!!!!

Guess it may also depend on what dishwasher tablets you use.

The rust and crap stained header tank on the 19 is generally something we gotta live with, dishwasher only makes a minute difference, not worth the hassle

Even if you get a new one, clean it out etc, You'll keep getting a rusty coloured tank, unless you flush out the block properly. When I stripped my engine it Was full of crap in the block (thanks to the twat before who just used tap water :lol, so I flushed it all out.
And use the proper Renault type D, I think it is, coolant. Or similar.
My tanks pretty much clear now, just green now not orange

Ive got something that resembles oxtail soup in the chamade header tank.ive heard that a dishwasher tab in the header will flush out the system fairly well.

both of my header tanks were orange, cleaned them up, flushed out engines and radiators and use purified water and glycol, they both still look like near new. no use doing one thing and not the other. I use pure water I get from work but I think you can buy it.
