Citroen Brake Discs on the rear?

scrabble

New Member
Hi again

The Reno garage which is doing my clutch and DMF rang and mentioned that my Phase II had the wrong discs on the rear. They said they were Citroen and that the pads were protruding over the discs themselves and causing uneven wear. I heard from another topic before about this issue and that some were putting Citroen discs on the rear as the originals were too fecking expensive and hard to come by.

Are there different pads whic can be bought to accomodate the Citroen discs? Or do you have to file the pads in a certain way so that work with the discs?

I am stumped?

To be fair the brakes have been pretty good on the car and I hadnt noticed this issue?

Kevin,

The Citroen pads do overhang the OEM Vee disks by a mm or two so just schamfer them carefully. I would imagine this is the issue rather than the disks being incorrect. Best to ensure they don't overhang and create a lip though as I would imagine they would wear unevenly as the garage have indicated.

Thanks Martin

I am popping into see them today and also have a set of V6 pads so will ask if they can put them in...free of charge. Otherwise I will do them myself.

Will keep you posted

No worries Kevin ...

I fitted the Citroen pads to the rear of my Vee, and carefully schamfered the edge to eliminate any overhang ... braking has always been fine and the pads fit just right and wear evenly ... I seem to remember the OEM ones had a very small overlap anyway ...

Right just see the V6 up on the ramp at the stealers. The pads are to blame and are the Citroen type. In the fact the new ones I bought a while ago have Citroen stamped on the box and are the same. I can live with this and am not going to pay the £300+ for genuine Reno pads!

Like Martin's, mine too are the Citroen ones, fitted by the previous owner. They're working fine so far. I'm being vigilant on the wear.

Quite right Kevin. The OEM pads ought to be £90 not £290. I really do think someone at Renault was a bit keyboard happy when putting V6 parts on the system, and now the errors can't be corrected easily.

Anyway, the guy working on my V6 was talking about cambelt changes on Renos and mentioned the Espace V6. Most people normaly write the car off if it needs a belt change as Reno chare £3k for this! Its a 3 day job ive been told! Feck that. Makes owning the Clio V6 seem easy.

Agreed, what sort of rubbish is that man talking about. 'Write them off'. It's only a cambelt for christ sake, and the most difficult part of the whole job is fitting the belt correctly.

I spoke to BenR at Angelworks as well and basically its an engine out job. You just cant do it with the engine in. Its meant to be a right pig to get the engine out? So I heard.

Yes, it is an engine out job, and granted it's a fiddly and tight. But in terms of technical expertise, it's only a matter of disconnecting things and having the right tools/equipment/space. The technical part is knowing what you are doing when changing the belts. :)

As a point of interest, I recall reading claims of places doing it without removing the engine. After being involved with the job myself, I cannot see how that would be possible, given the clearance. Or lack of it!

Mine was £1300 at Renault with major service and MOT.
