Car Fest South

A fantastic day out and we had a great time. Chip (my 19 year old nephew) was like a kid in a sweet shop, especially after I let him drive the v6 from the exhibitors car park to the club stand. Poor boy stalled it 3 times - not used to the POWER!

The day started off cloudy, then rained, but by 11:00am it had stopped and by lunchtime the sun came out and stayed out for the rest of the afternoon.

Having been to the North event of course, I was always going to be comparing the two. I have to say the North was better. The main reason is that the North venue was a proper race circuit and the South was just a giant field with a straw bailed bit of tarmac through the middle. Up north we have the grand-stands to sit in with great views whilst the show cars freely blatted round. For the south, I struggled to get a ground-level view through the crowds.

Apart from that, both had the same vendors and fun attractions. And best of all, both had the same exciting atmosphere!

Here's some snaps of the day:

Nice to see a Ph1 and Ph2 Mars together!

We didn't have the White Helmets up North!

And I thought these were simple but quite cool. Can we get v6Clio.net ones made?

And just for a bit of fun we had a bit of an exhaust comparison.

After we'd finished, the rather annoyed owner of the DMC deLorean that was parked at my rear got up and started wiping the (imaginary) soot from my exhaust off his bumper. He then grumbled about whether that display was really necessary and questioned how old I thought I was. Felt like being told off by my father.... Sorry dad!

I did not realise the deloren owner had a moan, the rev of was one of the funniest things I have seen in ages.

Nas was to blame he started it after trying to smooth talk two girls one off which had a clio just like it at home but without the body kit !

There is somebody on the deLorean forum cursing you all as we speak!

Nice photos, it is from the aerial shots, much larger than I expected.

Chip being the creative lad that he is, has just posted these to Facebook. When he was walking back to the exhibitor's car park here came across this:
So after an epic day at car fest i stumbled across this .... security guy was happy to let me in to get some photos/videos alongside the professional photographer !

I'm sure we'll see some more of his work when he gets around to posting it.

Was a great weekend, nice to spend some decent time with people and had a good few laughs.

It is more a family fun day than a normal car show, would be fantastic for those of you with little nippers! So much stuff for kids to do.
There were some great cars on display and did see some really giving it the beans, seeing the S1 quattro snaking under brutal acceleration was awesome.
Subjectively, the fastest car up the hill was the AMG A series driven by Jody Scheckter, man that was fast!! (but quiet!).

Was good to have the v6s there to display, i did chat to a few people who were interested in buyng one so :welcome: if your reading this.

I didnt really take many photos, but heres some of the ones i took, mostly of our vee's.

Nice seeing the 2 mars sat next to each other, really highlighted all the differencs between the two phases.

Nice pics Duncan, real shame about that Lambo.

Really sorry again that I couldn't meet my commitment to attend, no doubt my presence was badly missed :tumble:

The noticeable thing was I think it's more of a music festival rather than a car show. The vees didnt attract as much attention as normal and I suspect we need a massive sign stating 'rare car, handmade and yes the engine is really in the back and no I didnt do it myself!'

I wish this was held at a circuit (ala Silverstone Classic)........and I agree with Nas the music was the highlight for us, especially my wife, and now she is a convert and wants to go next year as well. :)

Must say I was impressed with the security arrangements. We stayed until the very end and when it was time to get to the Vee (around 11:30), we were escorted from entrance B to the car, and the chap waited until we settled in, started up and drove off.
