Can't get the wheels off!

I've just taken the V6 for a new set of boots, but they can't get the wheels off! The guy took a hammer to the inside of the wheel, but nothing, they appear to have corroded themselves to the hub.

Anyone else experienced this?

I didn't want the tyre guy to cause any damage so I stopped his efforts after about 15 minutes. I then drove to Renualt to see if they could have a look. As usual they were as helpful as an ash tray on a motorbike and refused to even put the car on the ramps (only services are done on Saturdays). They also told me that issues caused by 'atmospheric conditions' will not be covered by warranty (the car is only 1.5 years old).

I started swearing at this point and left to call Renualt UK - Of course they don't work at weekends either!

Why do they treat customers like this!! What a load of bull does this mean there is no corrosion warranty then as the rain caused the rust etc? Why do they fit wipers if it is not to be used in the wet? Why do we continually get this sloping shoulder rubbish!!!! When all you want is something as minor as getting the wheels off they should be especially greatfull its not another clutch/gearbox/engine out complaint, surely this can't be good marketing for them. I HATE PEOPLE FEEDING ME HORSE SH!T !!!!!!
Complain to the manager

..... woke up in a crap mood anyway

All the mk2's do that i'm afraid. Prob mk1's as well.

Mine certainly did. :(

Hope you get it sorted.

Peter

The tyre people that I have used have always used copper slip when replacing the wheels.

Alloy wheels and M.S. do not go well without protection.

Gets even worse in winter with salt.

Mine did this too, mk1 tho.
Remedy - big flat thick piece of wood, and the sledge hammer, the wood protects the rim. Move the wood round top and bottom of the rim to shock it at different places.

As John said put copper slip on wen replacing.

Jack up corner, bum on ground, Doc Martins on, slam soles of feet hard at bottom of rim, turn wheel 180 and try again. A few times and it should loosen it.

oh, take wheel nuts off first but i guess I didnt need to say that!

Had the same problem with mine. They told me it was due to the alloy soldering itself to the steel hub due to the amount of heat around that area.

Find somewhere with an airbag jack and they should be able to get the wheels off, make sure you use plenty of copper grease when they go back on.

The way to do this and it works with out causing any damage, is to not tighten the nuts to the wheel fully. By this I mean leave a LITTLE bit of slack on each nut. Then drive back then forward a few meters, very slowly and that should brake the corrosion seal.

This happended to my on my RS Focus and this worked a treat. I was so scared to try it, but do it slowly and it is the best way to sort the problem out. Yes copper slip the up after and keep it off the disk, as said below
