Cambelt Change

Matt

New Member
Hi,

Anyone know what sort of price I should be looking at for changing my cambelt? Just got a 1300 quid quote from Renault!! Seems abit steep. Any siggestion for places to go in the North West?

Also, read on one post that a garage didn't need to remove engine to change! Is this correct?

Any advice would be most appreciated!

Thanks.

Try the search button on the top of the page just under the logo banner. just type in Cam belt and you will find pages of previous duscussions about just this. Kriss had his done last week so best try his thread.
Did talk to a "reputable Clio V6 experts" the other day who reckoned the 5 year change thing was way over the top anyway. But its a gamble.....

Thanks. I saw the other thread about the change but no price - so have asked him how much he paid. My mate reckons that 5 years is quite early but better to be safe than sorry I suppose! It's only done 20K too!!

Well car goes to my mate next Friday to get the dreaded belt changed! Bought the full CamBelt Kit for 265 inc VAT - Not sure what he's charging me for fitting though.

Alloys getting re-sprayed after its been done - ready for Summer!

I hope your m8 knows what he is doing, no disrespect meant, as the cambelt is an engine out job. I have read that the tensioning of the cambelt requires a certain degree of specialist knowledge and perhaps special tools. I am sure I will be corrected if I am incorrect.

Just be careful that's all. No point in going for a cheap job if there is a risk of expensive engine damage.

Maybe some of us in the NW could benefit from someone, other than a dealer, who knows the V6 then ;-)

I'll ask him if it's OK to put his details on the forum for members in the North West when he does mine!

Matt.

My car is booked in with Renault to have the belt done - £485 all in!

I assume as my car only has 13K miles on it I don't need the water pump?

I have changed the cambelt on my v6 about one year ago,but the engine has not removerd. It was about 8 hours work.
The waterpump i did not changed. (16000 km)

How are they doing it that cheap? The kit alone for mine at trade was £300? Water pump was £50.

Which Renault garage is it? I was quoted £1300 all in at Renault Preston for the cambelt change. 10 hours work.

Does sound cheap. I'd check exactly what they intend to do....

Tim - do they know it's a V6 ??
That price is really cheap, you sure that's the whole lot ??
