Clio Calling Mk1 Clio owners....

I haven't started yet... or actually picked the car up, but I'm taking on a Valver project and looking at putting an F4r into it.
Taking to @James5 it should be fairly straightforward in terms on mounting the engine. Then it's just the wiring g to sus out.

Snap - My brother has the car but he doesn't want it anymore so ill be buying it off him. Its only a 1.2 not a valver which is a shame but never the less was looking to drop the F4r in.

wiring wise I was looking at EFI standalone ECU and harness, which should hopefully east the wiring issue.

mines a long way off getting started but just something to think about.

Dropped an f4r into a 5 some years back now, no real fabrication needed just mod the gtt front engine block so it aligns with the holes on f4r block. It's an easy conversion really you will need a wiring diagram. I have one somewhere. I've done a fair few conversions since then.

Cool, sounds straight forward......

wiring I was going to go stand alone ECU and loom from EFI. hopefully that will solve wiring issues.

Any other tips/advice would be helpful cheers

What you want is a phase 1 172 that has cable throttle body, you can get the immobiliser in 172 phase 1 ecu bypassed.
I am all for standalone just a waste on a std engine if your going turbo or throttle bodies then yeah do it. I run adaptronic on my f7pt gtt

Does it matter if I don't get a phase 1 172 if im going stand alone ecu?
my plan is to eventually go throttle bodies, So if I do the conversion i'd do the ECU now and not further down the line so everything's ready for when I get the throttle bodies.

Flyby wire throttle body? How you planning controlling it?
You could still use the phase 2 engine and either use a different throttle body from another car that allows cable. Just drill and tap inlet to accept it. Then icv phase 2 is part of the flyby throttle body, phase 1 is external on inlet.

As said phase 2 are easier to find you may have to do the mods to inlet for a cable throttle body. I think Andrew Cooke in his Twingo got flybywire to work think he used interior loom aswell. He had a complete car for donor prob best way for the conversion.

The new modular Adaptronic M2000 series includes the ability to add a fly-by-wire throttle controller module :) whereas before you'd have to use a completely independent unit from (someone else) thats fed control signals from the main ECU.

Really considering the upgrade to mine as they plan to add retrofit cruise control in the future - the hardware is there they just need to develop the software, but a standalone ECU with a fully home developed FBW module should be bang on the money :)

M2000 Modular ECU

The base M2000 ECU can also be expanded or upgraded to use one of the following boards:
  • DBW / e-throttle controller
  • Mini Output Board (6 x push-pull aux)
  • Mini Analogue Input Board (4 x analogue inputs)
  • Mini Real-Time Input (6 x inputs) – additional 2 x CAS, 3 x VSS, 1 x flex
  • Lambda Controller
  • EGT Inputs

It also has on-board flash logging and wireless connectivity too. Still waiting to see if they will offer a trade in against the Select units.

ok, so got my little clio and its excellent around town using the little 1.2 engine, but as you can imagine shite on the motor way, will do 70 but struggles after that.

I'll be doing a lot more motorway mileage so would like to drop another lump in for obvious reasons.
As above I was considering the 172 engine but this isn't going to happen just yet.
so question is, whats the easiest alternative? what will drop in on a weekend so I can drive it the Monday?

Thanks in advance

Nothing will drop in over a weekend to be honest mate its rare for an engine transplant to go smoothly. I would probably go 172 as valver/williams engines are thin on the ground these days
