Megane Bucket seats confusion

Hi guys,

Thinking of taking out a pair of good condition recaro speedlines and looking at omp buckets.

Firstly, what is needed? Brackets, sliders?!
I want to keep standard seat belts, is this possible?

Cheers guys

I imagine the easiest route to take it to buy the frames from K Tec and probably everything above... If you're happy to pay. They make the frames to fit the Mk2 so they bolt straight in, I've read comments saying the seats sit a little high but unfortunately it's the easiest way to get a pair of buckets seats in.

Personally, as I'm the only one to drive my Megane (unless someone is the same height as me) I tailor made my seat to bolt directly to the original 4 bolt hole locations so that the seat is in a permanent fixed position. So no runners or sliders, just the side brackets bolted to the seat then the seat and subframe bolted directly to the floor. Without the K Tec and all the other bits and pieces it's given my seat a very low centre of gravity. I'd say a good 4-5" lower than the original seats.

Good call mate ;) ha!

Yes, as @Ricardo mentions the easiest way is by using the Ktec custom seat bases, then you'd need side mounts for the seat as well (generally a universal item around £30), and also a slider unless you are happy for the bucket seat to be fixed in the 1 position.

Here's the subframes: K-Tec Racing - Renault Tuning Styling Motorsport Specialists

They do lower the seating position from the standard recaros, but its not as low as some would like - I would ideally prefer it 1 inch lower, but I am 1.94m. These bases are a direct fit to the actual floor of the megane, but for a wide(ish) seat (again I'm 92kg or so and went for the 'XL' width seats) you need to have the ktec bases drilled out in order to get the side mounts in the correct position. I had Rentec in Edinburgh do mine, if you are handy with a drill, it should be very easy.

Seat belts: you theoretically could, but it would be a lot of custom work I'd think, the biggest issue, is that the seatbelt clip is mounted to the recaro base, and the pre tensioner relies on that as well etc, I'd be worried about the belt not functioning as designed with a bucket seat - I switched to harnesses.

Ideally, if you can, I'd stick the buckets and a £500 rear cage in at the same time. Fixed back bucket seats have ZERO give in them in the event of a nasty incident, where a normal reclining seat will collapse and not crush your body in a similar situation, the fixed back keeps your neck in the same place.
Ricardo's thread has really good pictures on how to fit the buckets, - Ricardo's Budget Track 225

and my one will give you a good indication as well mate. R26 - Standard to Track

1 thing I would say, is make sure you sit in the buckets first!, I had an expensive mistake when I bought slightly too tight seats!

Also worth noting, you should be able to get £600 for your old seats if you are selling them - they help out with the costs a lot!

let us know if you have any more questions?

To be honest if you're going bucket seats I would just go #hero and have harnesses. Unless you're not track day driving the Megane, then realistically you have to ask the question. Why be half hearted and only fit the seats?

Thank you very much guys.

I need xl too ;)
Yes you're right. No half hearted. Harnesses it is. I thought it was possible. As you say the clip is on the base of the seat.

You guys think I would have much demand for the speedlines?

Also I have a rear strut brace from k tec fitted. Would the harness be on to this?

Yes mate - Clio guys like the R26 Recaro's - you can sell them no problem! - List at £650, take £600, You'll shift them in less than 2 weeks,

The rear strut bars that Ktec use aren't designed to be load bearing, so not really suitable for harness mounting. There are the points at the rear seat bases where you can fix them - Ricardo's thread has pictures to show this (y)

I sold my leather Recaros within a week for £600 and didn't even advertise, I only mentioned putting bucket seats in on the thread and had messages straight away. The bloke came from Derby to Essex, paid in cash and fitted them in the same day.
