brake upgrade for R19 16V ph2

After trips across Europe and problems in MOT time has come to change rear brake calipers because of hand brake inefficiency and master brake cylinder because i have to press the pedal twice to get it working full force from the start. I have Renault 19 16v ph2 with Bosch ABS. I would like to fit bigger brakes for front and rear but keep ABS working. Has anyone done this before and what units you took from other models? Or maybe i just have to buy factory remanufactured units and keep my solution simple? Can anyone give advice on this problem?

The back Brake's are fine. Just get them working right. Check your rear bias valve. Odd's on it seized

rear calipers are probably seizing and the handbrake mechanism probably isn't operating fully.

ABS can be retained with different front discs and calipers etc.

Rear calipers can be brought back to life usually, get new cables as well, they start to fray and thus stick meaning the handbrake doesn't work right.

280mm fronts off a f7r megane could be used but you have to use the megane hubs and struts too, backs as above a good service or recon they will be up to the job.

Cables, pads and discs are new for rear. The problem was that it's not holding the car on hills. I would love to change fronts from megane, but don't know if I could get all the parts. How to check rear bias valve if it's working?

see if the bias valve moves but that won't be the problem if its the handbrake.

the problem will be the handbrake mechanism, do a search on how to fix it I have covered it more times than I should have.

I found your tips Chris about the cleaning of mechanism, I have done so before fitting new discs and pads. The leaver travels a lot when pulled, so I reckon that pulleys are worn out, although could not see anything after the clean.

what pulleys?

The mechanism often doesn't work right on new calipers. my chamades offside rear for example doesn't fully release, can pull it all the way back with your fingers pump the pedal then the handbrake will work properly that once, then its back to longer travel and not as secure.

The levers should swing through a good 60 degrees or so most only go maybe 45 degrees if that.

By pulleys I meant calliper handbrake operating levers. You say that if I will get remanufactured callipers they may be the same as old ones?

yes new or reman ones may be the same.

you can of course fix it. i haven't on mine as i can't be bothered.

Just need to clean up the pivot arm, remove it and fine emery it. of course this is assuming the handbrake cables are routed correctly and moving freely.

On the topic of brakes, can you get new bleed nipple screws from anywhere?

want to get someone to tak all the buggered ones, get them out and replace.

ebay for cheap ones. renault for them at over a fiver each.
