Boot lock

Does anyone know why my boot lock has a keyhole in it? It's in the platic diamond bit. Also, the lock surround is all plastic trim not colour coded.

Nas mentioned it looked odd over the weekend and I've since looked at other MK1's and they all have boot locks similar to the phase 2s. I've also tried the key to manually unlock the boot and found the key didn't fit!!!!

The only two explanations I can think of are:

1) It's had a non V6 tailgate put on it, which, I assume, doesn't share the same locking mechanism as a V6, but why would it have been changed? No accident damage on HPI and it's been a club car so I think any damage would have floated to the surface on the forum by now.

or

2) Someone at some point has broken the lock to get into the boot. Although seeing as you can only just about fit a packet of polos in there on a good day I've no idea what they'd be trying to nick...

Any ideas?

ETA Mine is No. 57. Were the boot locks changed at some point after 57?!

Yours is an early Phase 1 type boot lock, standard for that period.

You could ask some of the previous owners if they had any issues with the keys.

Ahh. Thanks for the speedy reply James :approve: :approve:

I can now sleep soundly without the images of crashes or thievery that Nas had imprinted in my brain

there are 3 types of boot lock that ph1s v6s have, early ones have that tiny black lock, middle oaged ones, a black plastic ph2 style one & later ones a colour coded ph2 one.

Glad its a standard lock but it just looked so odd to me sorry to have worried you mate.
