Bonnet coming lose

This issue with renault clio's and the bonnet catch coming lose, i'm just wondering:

if this is the same faulty clatch on the v6 ?

and if and anyone has experienced the bonnet coming lose...etc?

Never ever heard of the problem (prior to the recent press) on a V6, or it mentioned on 172/182 when I used to use ClioSport. I believe the whole issue is to do with the secondary catch too, so if your bonnet is properly closed in the first place there is no risk.

@Tom,
Yes it's the same on the Vee. Actually I've seen 2 RS1 who had encountered this. Not a thing You want to have. It destroys not only the windscreen and bonnet, but also the roof.

The catch is not the main locking mechanism, but the secondairy one which hold the bonnet if you release it from the inside of the car. This is a piece of plastic.

On cars which run for a longer time, it is essential to grease the main (metal) locking device. (over the radiator) It contains a sliding plate, which is under spring force. It corrodes quite easy, so specially in autumn, winter and spring, it catches dirt and water.
I usually spray it every other month with some WD40.

It is actually an item in the regular maintenance scedule, but almost nobody bothers or forgets to check. (like visually checking the seatbelts)
