BMC Induction Kit - Reducer Needed?

Hi folks. Recieved my BMC induction kit today and noticed it comes with a reducer that needs to be glued in if needed (as per the instructions). I was wondering if it is required? My car is a mk1 vee.

If it is I will glue it before i start fitting the induction kit.

Cheers

Iain

It depends:

If the mk1 tubing on the engine side of the airbox is the same size as the mk2 tubing (which I'd guess it is) then you do not need the reducer. Getting the tube onto the BMC is fiddly and can be made easier with two pairs of hands, some lubricant and a screwdriver. Sounds like my kind of Friday night.

Mike's right! I originally used the reducer on my Mk2 as I was fitting it on my own. I've since refitted it and, with the help of an able assistant, managed to get the Renault pipe to fit over the BMC pipe. Couldn't have done it without some lube!! :P

BMC fitted in just under two hours!!! Managed on my own, without the reducer too!! Absolute nightmare, I feel like I've been wrestling aligators for the last two hours though

Haven't had a chance for a proper burn, just a quick spin around the street to check everything was ok. Sounds awesome :D looking forward to tomorrow already when i can unleash it on the public :D

P.s. How many bolts to unscrew!!!

Hi Bros,

Any improvement after fitting the BMC, in terms of performance?

Also, does it use more gas after fitting the BMC?

Slight increase in performance, especially at the mid / top end. Worth it for the noise alone. Not a noticeable decrease in mpg.

Ayone got a sound clip of a Bmc with a std backbox?
Don't want too much noise in fear of sounding like a chav ;)

You can never have too much induction noise....and a v6 will never sound chav ;)

I've just got my brother to fit a BMC induction kit Today, it sounds great!!!! but when i push the throttle there a strange noise? i don't really know how to describe it, maybe like a beeping noise? it only seems to do it when i put my foot hard down fast, the induction noise does sound nice though. Any ideas.

2 weeks ago I also fitted a BMC airfilter on my mkII...
The engine side I didn't use a reducer.

But now the air intake side?
I used the magnesium pipe what was in the package from my BMC filter.
Then putted in the side pod.
But the original pipe what is connected on the side pod has a larger diameter as the magnesium pipe.
Is this fitted correct?

thanks

I used the reducer but on the other end

E.g. the magnesium pipe connecting to the sidepod from BMC is too small to be clamped onto the sidepod hole as it fits inside not outside.

So i put the reducer on the air filter then the original pipe on top and then connected the original pipe to the sidepod which solved the problem.

My BMC aluminium pipe is getting in this original hose what you see on the picture.
The original hose is 2cm wider as my BMC aluminium pipe . So there is a gap..
But the aluminium pipe is longer so I pushed it down through the original hose near the fan.
is this given problems?

i never used a reducer with my bmc filter.a bit of a struggle tho.i used some 89mm ducting from sfs hoses.cut the wire out at 1 end and jubilee cliped it to the filter.
the more air the better.
lose the restricter and get some bigger ducting. :approve:

Guys, sorry to jump on this thread

Is there much differnece between the BMC and Viper kit? The Evo Viper is more expensive but is it worth it or not? I'm not really looking for big performance gains as don't expect them from this, basically which is better sound?

cheers.

Do a search mate and there's quite a lot of posts on this same topic. I personally don't think theres much but some say the Viper is the slightly louder of the two. Both are pretty good filters though.
