Some truly fantastic photographs of iconic/historic race cars in action: Best Vintage Car Racing Photo of 2012

My vote goes to (in order):
1. Ford GT40 MK II at the biennial Le Mans Classic (photo: Tim Scott)
2. Porsche 935 at famed La Source hairpin during Spa Classic (photo: Jurrie Vanhalle)-
3. Waving the Italian flag is the Ferrari 512 found at the Silverstone Classic (photo: Tim Scott)
4. Jumping Jaguar E-type at the Luigi Musso Historic Grand Prix (photo: Peter Lutz)

Your vote?

Not sure if it's in the collection (at work so can't look), but there's a photo of a DTM batmobile csl coming over the brow of a hill at the nurburgring (?) with all four wheels off the ground. One of my favourite motorsport cars/photos of all time.

ETA - found a link Clicky

Yeah, remember that photo of the iconic BMW CSL (3.0?), which is not in the list I provided as that site included photos taken in 2012, so were of cars taken at historic races/meets/hillclimbs etc. As such, the quality of the phtographs are fantastic, and coupled with the skill of the individuals invovled makes for a great collection.

FYI: The same site also has links to similar photos taken during the previous couple of years as well, so one can spend quite a while flicking through them all - something to do during a quiet time I think.

Been trying to find out who was driving the works 3.0 csl in the picture I posted above. Still haven't found out but did stumble across this Csl classic Le mans

Good read from a good website.

Judging by the tags in the top right hand side of the screen when you open the link you posted and after subsequent Google searches the driver was: Hans-Joachim Stuck (Son of the Auto Union Driver Hans Stuck) :).

Aha. Mystery solved. Lollypop and a shiny sticker in the post Will!

For some reason I thought it might have been Walter Rohl. No idea why really!!

Walter Rohrl drove for Fiat, Opel, Lancia, Audi, Porsche, Ford and BMW. He became WRC world champ in 1980 and 1982, and is now Porsche's chief test driver.

Trust you have seen this footage of him piloting the Group B Audi? Fantastic car control, and just watch his feet - heel &toe and left foot braking :salut:

Judging by their antics spectators during the Group B era would have been quite mad or suicidal! [smilie=icon_eek.gif]
