Did some of you got problems with leather quality on Renault sport Clio steering wheel(V6 and 2.0)?
A contact at Renault Sport is interested to know if is has been such a huge pain as coils...
Not beeing a member I cannot set up a survey, can a member make it showing for each Clio a Yes or no possibility of answer.Give S/N of your car if possible.
Philippe.
This guy is in charge of quality at Renault sport "les Ulis",I already sent him a direct link to the coil failure topic on your site.

The surface of mine has basically "melted" ie. it's got funny ridges in it where I hold the wheel. I don't consider it wear and tear since the surface of a steering wheel shouldn't go like this, and it's not like I've got sweaty hands or anything. Hence, when mine goes in for it service in the next month I'll be raising it as a warranty issue.

[And I've added a poll for you ;)]

Previous owner changed it just before I bought it cos it was shagged, and I think it's starting to go again...

My steering wheel cover is totally gone / bald.

Having to get it recovered in leather but only costs me 50 quid, unfortunately means I won't have my vee for 3 days as they have to send it to China to get it redone!

in my old car ( a clio rs 2.0 ) the steering wheel had the same problem. when i asked renault the price [smilie=icon_eek.gif] € 473,- euros !!! ( ex. airbag )

then i bought a V6 MK1, with a new steering wheel on the cost of renault.. :D but i think that while last for 4 years, then that`s broken too.

I voted no as my steering wheel (mk1) is in great nick, i'd say 9/10 if I was being picky.

My dads one on his mk2 172 isn't good at all, his right thmb grip started to melt & it got a hole in the top of it :(

I'll keep an eye on this thread to see if anything comes of replacements etc.

Thinking about it I reckon the state of the steering wheel depends on how fast you drive the car?

E.g. the faster you drive it the more white nuckled / digging your nails into the wheel moments you have trying to keep the vee on the road, so thats why the cover falls off!

Ditto with my vee.

Thought it was just sticky to start with but on closer inspection the leather does seem to have melted slightly, in two places on the right side where its held the most.

My steering wheel is in Blue Leather and the blue colour has faded around the sides and top of the wheel.

Renault have said they would replace the wheel on warranty as the fading was not down to wear and tear (the retail on this steering wheel is £900, thank god for the warranty).

The only problem is the order went in 1 and a half years ago, and I am waiting on a French bloke to hand make it, the good new is I have now been told that it should arrive by the end of February (there is light at the end of the tunnel)

Is this the longest anyone has had to wait for a part to be replaced on warranty (its got to be a contender)?

Had my steering replaced today under warranty ... result :approve:.

It took a tiny bit of effort since at first the garage, whilst agreeing that the "leather" had "perished", weren't happy to immediately agree to it being warrantable. However, a call to Renault Customer Service (who I must say were very professional) at the suggestion of the garage got the ball rolling and without further intervention I got a call after a while saying that a new steering wheel was on order! Week and a half later and all sorted :).
