Are KW's worth the cash??

Hi,

I am wondering whether or not to invest in some KW V3's in a few months before the shows and hopefully nice weather, however are they seriously worth the grand or so plus setup costs?
Obviously I have a mk1 which drives ok but not as good as the mk2, am a little worried that stiffening up suspension may make handling worse in the wet etc.
I only intend to do a track day or 2 and go slightly lower, so will I get my moneys worth?

Any opinions very much appreciated :approve:

Tim,

My fears are coming true, I knew it wouldnt take much to convince me to buy some :)

I am going to save for a couple of months as just spent all my money on Recaros and harnesses but for the summer I may have to invest.

Will definately PM you regarding ARB's, just a shame that it would cost thousands for a mk2 subframe etc otherwise I would get that too (although definately overkill for road use IMO).

Cheers for help :approve:

i am seriously tempted by a set of kws, just checked and they come in at £1360 delivered, from kw direct or from k-tec

sorry to hijack the thread but how much does set-up and fitting usually cost?

Set-up will need a proper 4 wheel alignment so you're looking at places like Elite Tyres rather than your average QuikFit. I think I paid something in the region of £100 for a full alignment but this is some time ago.

Probably budget for around 4 hours labour for fitting - mine were fitted at K-Tec when they first started bringing them in you may find they've got faster but it's a relatively long winded job.

Sort of tempted with a set myself :s whats the ride like with the KW's? both my brothers have coilovers fitted on there cars (R5 GTT and Toyota Glanza Turbo) the ride on there cars is awful/hard, they dont turn the Vee into a bone shaker do they :)

if there's a few of you then i can probably do a good price

ali where did you get urs set-up?? i was up your way on saturday, a night out in aberdeen town, was awesome! i was lookin for the vee cruisin around town but alas no sign of u!

Have these gone up in price recently e.g. used to be 999+ VAT think now K-Tec and KW are pricing at 1350ish?

Also Bilstein have just introduced an upgrade as well which they are selling in Japan but I could not find any details on their European site in case anyone has contacts with them?

i know the boys at Bilstein UK, i'll have a word

the rrp for them has always been £1299inc vat, but with the pound being worth less than a Ugandan Dollar they've gone up

although my price hasn't :D

I'm just happy to find a post about KW's!

I've a question for you guys! How many kilometers we can expect to drive with those KW's coilovers? I mean, I use my car everyday and I usually have 1 or 2 trackdays a year so is it a good investment?

As I drive 10000Kms per year on different roads, I'm just wondering if they will still be ok after 30000/40000kms...

I heard somebody saying they usually need to be replaced after only 20000kms!!! And it's worse if you don't use them only during trackdays.

So what is the truth?

its TUV approved suspension from one of the most respected/well known companies in the world
you will never have to replace them, but you might have to service them every 15,000miles depending on usage

I'm defo interested Fred in the KW deal, but need to sort out getting a secondhand Mk2 Gearbox first for my Mk1 as the diffs gone on mine.

I bought a Mk2 box 2 weeks ago in good nick but then the courier van had a bad smash and damaged the box in transit!

So on the lookout for another box :s

Yeah I know - spoke to them already - wouldnt touch them with a bargepole after the load of crap they said + price they quoted + "surcharges" they wanted on top of the quoted price! Have also heard dodgy stuff about them from others.

Scott has one with your name on it........

Yeap I'm already speaking to Scott - thats because the box that was been couriered was on its way to Scotts place when it got damaged! I'm getting the clutch and other bits and bobs from him, so fingers crossed. Risk for me is I have to have it couriered by DHL to Hong Kong, so can't afford anything to be wrong with the box when fitted.
