Have fitted my new Apex discs, Sprayed them first with silver smooth Hammerite paint, Hopefully they might not rust so bad

Nice job, I use high temp paint, hopefully the hammerite will be ok.. But saying that I used normal cellulose on an exhaust one and it stayed on just as long as VHT Paint.

I did the same mate, seems to work. Mine is in storage and rusting can be worse if just stood. mine still look like yours.

Smoothrite stable up to about 80c wet and 120c dry, you really need to go for a seriously more stable material such as Jotatemp 650 which as the name implies will take 650c though you will need to precondition it in the oven at around 200-220 or equivalent gas mark for an hour to get full performance, hopefully you have a sympathetic wife/partner/mother when it comes to doing this!

I've seen discs zinc plated by the concourse folks, and they do look good for the life of the disc. The rears probably need to be skimmed in the pad contact area before use, as they are so lightly used, but the fronts can be left and the pads wear through the plating pretty quickly.

its not just non gen parts either, I have a new Renault Traffic van, 3 weeks old, with alloys that give an all too clear view of the discs and, you guessed it, the hub part is as rusty as an old Lancia parked on the seafront. Shirley not painting this part is cost cutting taken a bit too far.
