Any advice on new shocks?

It's time for new shocks. I see from previous threads that KW3's seem to be the modification of choice. Can anyone who has fitted these describe the effect of them to ride and handling? Can they be adjusted to soften the ride? How do they make the handling feel as compared to the standard set-up? Any opinions welcome.

I think Looch has these and also Danny has a set on his car. I'd be interested in hearing feedback. I looked into a group buy of these last year, but I needed a lot of people to get any discount, and it only worked out to be £200 less per set. You'd probably get that discount just by shopping around a bit.

The ride is firmer, not back shatteringly so but over poor road surfaces you certainly feel it. There are many different settings you can choose and tbh I haven't experimented that much. I used to the recommended settings for a week then changed a couple of clicks here and there to my preference.

The difference is really felt in the corners, for me it feels really planted and settled. I don't do track days so haven't pushed the car but along the country roads and twisties it feels great. One of my best mods along with the 197 wheel. [cmilie=iconcheers.gif]

Mossy 'Cruising Low' has them on too.

One thing to bear in mind is at their highest settings the KW variant 3's are 10mm lower than standard.

Certaily look good though. Are you not tempted to go lower?

Yep mine has KWs on, though they came on the car so hard to give a back to back comparison as I've only ever passengered in a V6 before and it was a while ago...

So this is a bit more subjective, but I think the car is fine. I noticed in the documentation that the ride height was kept the same, or returned to the factory height, which is good as it still catches in some places on speed humps or steep roads. As for ride quality, I drive mine everyday and have no problems. The damping is great and I've never felt the car be twitchy/unsettled.

Take from that what you will. I actually wouldn't mind meeting up with someone (Dan or Matt maybe?) to compare and have a definitive answer to how better they are or what the difference is

Can anyone provide serial numbers for the KW3's for when I rock up to buy them? Also, what are the alternatives to the KW3's. I see that they are 10mm lower. Looch has noted they are firmer and lower than standard. Can they be adjusted less firm and standard height or is this not an option? I know I have a lot of questions here, but I guess they're normal for someone doing the research. Thanks in advance.

If any of you guy do go for a change and want to sell me your old n/s rear shock please contact me as I'm a little stuck trying to find one thanks or if you do manage a group buy I might be in for a change , thanks

Ah, then mine aren't back to standard settings as was told... Just not as low as can go then. Not too bothered as still looks great and rides well

You can adjust the firmness, but only to an extent, the height at its maximum is 10mm lower that standard and can't be changed (only lower)

I'm happy at the current height at the mo, with RUSSOs splitter I catch the occasional thing but have siliconed a rubber strip which is taking the contact well and hasn't yet come off.

In case you've not read up yet: KW v.3

KWs are expensive. For good reason? I can't really tell. Brand is well known and established and got a good track record. Still can't escape the price. Well I couldn't anyhow.

Alternative that a couple have gone for (including me) : BC BR

Discussion here and here

Whichever you go for try and get them professionally set-up by people who know what they're doing, ideally alongside a full geo. Also don't expect them to magically transform the car into an Elise or similar. It'll still be a fat pig requiring respect, good technique and quick reactions - it'll just happen to have shiny undercrackers on.
