As usual some interesting observations........

EDIT: By the way I don't troll through forums looking for threads like this one, but get Google Alerts to pop an email in my inbox when new content is added to Google, which I then rapidly scan read to see whether there is anything that will spark my interest or make me smile. I believe in working 'smart' not 'hard'. ;)

Mini enthusiasts are all a bunch of jumper wearing bearded closet model railway trekkies

Waits for Brett to pipe up...

I would like to reserve judgement on my experiences with mini customers.

I used to be an advisor and salesaman of classic car parts (Etypes, Xk's, Healy's etc). Then we started mini parts and the grief is unreal. People thinking they have price-less classics but wont pay £20 for a bonnet!

And i mean to cause no offence to Mini Owners as met some top people and I cant knock anyones enthusiasm for any car

Apparantly later models can be recognised by the rear wash wipe lol

That bit did make me chuckle :), The completely different styling at the front of the car may also help ;).

Ha! Haven't been on there for years. I've got a big project page tucked away somewhere on there from when i was 17! lol Many mini owners are utter pilchards although there are a few very clever fuckers on their.

Things have changed a bit now. You`ll be amazed at just how much people pay for mini stuff. I sold the eyeball air vents from a mini for 30quid to someone in belguim, the jack out of the boot for 50quid to someone in mexico, steering wheel went for 60quid, even stuff like headlamp switches - 17quid. Doors, £70. I think when I worked it out I got about £1500 just in bits from one mini I scrapped a few years back. Had I realised that even old sheds of mini`s would fetch me a few grand each these days, id have bought more back when they were £50 a piece when I was younger!

From personal experience, I have also found the majority to be as tight as ass holes. However there are a select group who will pay through the nose for genuine or good quality stuff. When I was selling a brand new forged 1460 EN40b crank with sh1t loads of work done to it, I must have had near 50 people offer me 150 quid or so even though I advertised it for nearly a grand. Baring in mind it cost me nearer 2 grand to have made. In the end I've kept it to make a nice stg 4 motor for my mk1. I haven't really been involved in the mini scene for a good 8 years but it scary to see the price of stuff now. It cost me around £12,000 for a miglia motor back then. I'd hate to guess what they are now.
