Another coil gone

My first one too. :(

Still I guessed the right one first time from listening to the miss-fire which I was pleased with. 8)

Fitted a replacement and she now sounds good back on all 6 BUT the engine warning light is still on.

I have reset the trip computer as below to no avail.
"
1. With the ignition off, press and hold in the ADAC button (at the end of the wiper stalk) for at least 5 seconds.
2. Whilst still holding the ADAC button in, turn on the ignition
3. Continue holding the ADAC button, and you will see the needles on the dials move, and after a further 5 seconds or so, all segments of the LCD display will illuminate
4. Let go of the ADAC button at this point
5. Press the reset button on the centre of the LCD panel and all gauges will reset back to normal an the trip display will show the correct reading.
"
Ideas?

Cheers
Peter :D

Dont worry peter the light goes off after about 50miles

I hope so. I will know by the weekend I guess.

I have stashed a 8mm spanner to fit a spare in the car and will buy another coilpack from Renault next week to leave in the car. Shame tho. :(

Is your car outta warranty then?

If youve gotthe time its always a good idea to call the AA they come out and bring you one free.

Yeah my car is a 53plate and thus out of warranty.

TBH its not worth the hassle of calling the AA/RAC. It'll cost you come renewal if you call them out and the coils are P155 easy to change. I have free'ed up all 6 retaining bolts so will be easy to change if any more go. Its a 5 min job. Not worth the wait for the RAC guy!

Aah bummer.

Agree with you tho half the time its just as easy to change them yourself, exactly what I done when my second one went.

Was going out so 5mins and it was done

Why not get a OBD 2 code reader.

Tells you the fault and abilty to switch off the light. Plugs in under the ashtray on my mk1.

Unlucky about the coil tho, think most of us will fall to this common fault at some point.

Steve

I had one go on saturday :x

Ive been to renault for a replacement part, will fit myself when i get a min.

Alex assures me the light will reset after 50 ish miles.

Amongst us we have had loads of coils go, obviously a poor / weak design. However if NONE have gone since replacement then surely we could approach Renault for compensation. They are clearly not fit for purpose unlike the replacements which have clearly been redesigned / have the flaw removed. Renault must also know what was wrong with them.

It can't be a bad batch as the poor quality ones have been fitted to mk1's and mk2's. Surely at bad batch can't have lasted YEARS!

Peter

Renault knows theres a problem with them alright!

But there a big company and dont give a shit, if it was a safety matter they would recall for sure!

Do a search and see what I have said over a period of time !!

As I understand it Renault took delivery of a bad batch which may have been used on the V6.

I cannot guarantee this but Renault will replace faulty ones under warranty even if outside your three years.

As far as I can see not one of you have approached Renault so do not moan about it untillsuch times as Renault say no.

again not one of you have reported back that you have a failure of a replaced coil so may be there is some truth in the matter.

Renault can trace where the batch went and should contact owners re. replacements. Not keep their heads down and only offer replacements if challenged.

Since changing the faulty coils on my vee back in September the new ones have been fine and havnt had any probs since - Thats the great thing about the mk2 vee - nice & easy to change the coils yourselves :D :D

John the master plan is to get a replacement free of charge from Renault to keep as a spare.

I WILL chase Renault. Gimme a chance it only happened today! Just speaking to you guys first. :D

Peter, not getting at you, what I am pointing out that I have posted since June 04 regarding coils, first one replaced beginning July 04, (37,458 miles) including instrument panel, next, 5 replaced in Feb 05 ( 48,231 miles) including instrument panel. All under warranty. I raised questions then, and some of the answers were as above. You have to go back to customers service, and I have been assured that you may get them replaced F.O.C. but as you will appreciate that is coming up to 3 years back.

Unless you ask you don't get.

I do not have an axe to grind as all mine was covered.

Second bill £790.40.

The bold bits are the shocking things! All it takes is the reset sequence on the instrument panel and everything is as good as new after the coil has been replaced. However, repeatedly I've seen Renault replacing the panels at great cost ... and not always under warranty .
