Had my V6 for a few weeks now and it seems to have an intermitent alarm prob. in that sometimes it will sit happily with no probs. and then on other occassions it will keep going off for no reason. :? Before I suffer the fumblings of my local Renault dealer has anybody got any suggestions!

Cheers all.

Mine goes off anytime a chav with an industrial sized baked bean tin for an exhaust drives past. I have resorted to switching the internal sensor off sometimes by turning the key in the ignition twice and removing. Seems to have the desired effect. I have also read that closing the air vents can help but i'm doubtful. I originally took mine to the stealership but they didn't even know where the alarm was or how it worked -no real surprise.

Again one of the more "common" problems seen on V6 and 182s ... by which I mean its not common, but multiple have suffered from it.

Typically attributed to the ultrasonics, so I don't know if you've tried overriding them for a day or two to see whether it helps.

Then several things ..

1. The oft joked about thing to look for is spiders in your car ... haven't the foggiest whether its folklore or not.
2. Some people report reduced problems if they close their air vents when leaving the car.
3. I believe that Renault can adjust the sensitivity for you ... and so that's ultimately where people have ended up.

Thanks for the tips guys - I'll see what happens. Good and loud alarm btw!

Pugsey,

If you had carried out a search, comes up with 5 pages, not all relevent but spans micro waves, spiders, flies etc etc.

Dealers can reduce the sensitivity but it is a dash off job apparently. Evo longtermer review commented on this. Would be good to find out how to do it (DIY) as I’d prefer to do it myself (wouldn’t trust a stealer to take as much care)
Would be even better if there was a way of doing this without removing the dash i.e computer hook-up etc. (wouldn’t want to risk any squeaks suddenly appearing)

The local army chinooks normally set my alarm off when flying low overhead :?

Although when i had my Caterham with the small silenced exhaust through i went into a multistorey car park once and set off the alarms of about 60% of the cars i drove past - oops

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh....let me tell you about mine.... had a 182 before the Vee and I was nearly hung drawn and quartered by my neighbours   (live rural in one of 4 cottages... ) My alarm started going off one night - got up, got the keys...switched it on and off etc., started again...and again and again....this went on solid for the entire night.... Then to add further insult to injury with the neighbours, the following (sunday!) morning it started again.....went on-line to look at Reno diagnostics...but to no avail.....cut a long story short...this went on spasmodically for a week...by which time the neighbours had all clubbed together to get a 'hit' on me and my 182..!!!

By the time the weekend came around again, I was sleeping with the keys under my pillow..... :? Anyway...the Saturday night it starts all over again...the next day, rings the AA....he comes with a laptop....can't do anything....call the stealers where I bought the car from, they said bring it down and we'll look at it. Thought at least I can get some decent shut-eye for the night... Call into Reno on the Monday night after work....the manager pulls out this wiring diagram which looks like something from a sci-fi movie.... I nod intently and try to look like I really know what he's talking about....as he tells me what his grease monkeys done to fix the problem....

Take the car home.....10.30pm-ish...3 guesses what's happened..? Yes....the 3 million decibel alarm is blurring out again..... neighbours on the lane throwing looks at me that would stun and kill at 30 paces.... Oh sh*t.....Next morning I arrive at the stealers asking to see the manager....who then proceeds to tell me that "NOTHING" was done with my car the day previous...it sat on the car-park for the ENTIRE DAY whilst they "OBSERVED" it....WTF..????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!    You having a laugh mate....??!!! Oh yes....they did bugger all to fix it, until I read the Manager the riot act. They had it 2 days and the grease monkey in the workshop actually had the bare-faced cheek and audacity to say to me he would "Take it home and leave it on his drive for the night to 'monitor' the car alarm for me.....!!!!!!" DURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR...................

HEY......"I might be female, but do I have "FECKING IDIOT" tattooed on my fod you numpty...???????!!!!" :geek: :geek:

I think not......How about I run this by you...."take this car one foot outside the permitted turning circle to get the car into and out of the workshop and I will personally have to come and kill you...???!" He looked at me and said "Okay....I'll leave it in the workshop then....!!!!!!!!" :?

The stealers were as much use as a concrete airship..... I pity your situation Pugsey....it's a real bummer...... :( I hope you get it sorted ....I know first hand how painful this can be and doesn't do anything in building good neighbourly relations...!!! :(

Good luck hun...!! :D
