adjusting ultrasonic alarm sensitivity?

LiamV6

Member
on the 182/172s you can swap the wires around under the cup holders to reduce the sensitivity by 60% or so.
Ive had a look under here on my v6 to do the same but the ultrasonic wires arnt there.
I removed the radio and the wires go right up under the top halkf of the dash and i cant get to them.

What is the way for adjusting the sensitivity on the vees, as mine has had a few ultrasonic false alerts?

thanks
Liam

You can. Mine was being a ¢unt going off the whole time. Twist those sensors into a different position... it has worked on mine.

Stops it going off though. Let's face it, the Alarm is just a deterent... if someone is going to break in it or steal it they will have a go anyway. I just hope that if someone takes mine it is never found again. Or so badly damaged that it is written off, preferably killing the fuckers that took it.

Anyone worked out how to reduce the sensitivity yet/get to the wires (ie the wire method). I know dealers can do it but don't really trust them to take as much care as I would?

Cheers!

Dropped my car off at dealers this morning :? for this very problem - will let you have an update. Eg., miles done, damage done, time wasted etc etc - what me? cynical?! I'd thought I'd give them a chance and see how they stack up against the Porsche and AM dealers I'm more used to dealing with. I have to say that so far - phone dealings, booking car in, lift home etc. they've been very good.

Hope all goes to plan and thanks would really appreciate if you could let us all know (as the wires are either underneath the cup holders or can be reached by removing the stereo or its a dash off job and under the passenger airbag....)

Hi guys - sorry for delay.

Well, I'm at stage one of what will either be a mercifully short or long and tedious process!

I must say I seem to have struck lucky with my dealer btw - the senior tech. there knows his V6s inside out and is a real fan.

Anyway, my prob. may simply have been incorrectly aligned sensors. Apparently they should be aiming almost straight back down the sides of the car towards the rear screen, angled only very slightly inwards. Mine were pointing so far inwards that their paths (an imaginary line coming out of the sensors) crossed mid car. Apparently this will give false alarms. While the car was in they checked the wires to the sensors (inside screen pillar liners) as these can wear by rubbing and then cause probs.) I am now armed with the flash codes so that when I return to the car I can a) tell if the alarm has gone off and b) tell what type of incident caused it. So far so good though!

Any work on the alarm itself is indeed a dash out job.

There was a revised system fitted to later MK11s which was apparently more reliable. If my problem persists apparently the next step would be to try the later sensors before heaving the dash out.

Interesting, that was one of the moves I carried out a long time ago.

Have had very few alarms go off in recent years.
