Adding Cruise Control to my MK2 Vee

Stefan

Hi There.

When I was reading [smilie=icon_study.gif] the workshop manual of the Vee I got an idea for a smal project :
I'm trying to build the original cruise control into my mk2 Vee. As I understand the first mk2 Vees did not have cruise control / speed limiter built in, just like mine... [smilie=doubt.gif]
But as I found out most parts and wiring are allready in place :D
I could not find a second hand the cruise control / speed limiter button right away, so I just short circuited the correct wiring as the button would have done [smilie=cool.gif]
At the junkyard I found an old steering wheel with the buttons on it. With a bit of hassle I was able to place the buttons to my original Renault Sport steer [smilie=cool.gif] Had to cut some area away from the airbag cover though. Didn't want to buy a new airbag + cover... [smilie=icon_moneyeyes.gif]
I went to the Renault dealer who enabled the cruise control in the software [smilie=cool.gif] [smilie=cool.gif] [smilie=cool.gif] and voila... I had the cruise control light on in my dash :D
With some wiring I connected the steering wheel buttons to the cruise control connector in the steering shaft housing and... All worked !!! [smilie=drunken_smilie1.gif] [smilie=icon_cheers.gif]
Unfortunately it has become impossible to steer now, because the wiring gets entangled when turning the wheel [smilie=icon_frown.gif]
So I am going to be needing the original rotary ring from the steering shaft housing where the horn, airbag and cruise control wiring are connected to...

Here is the part where I need your help ! The label of the rotary ring without the cruise control wiring on my car has the (wrong) number 8200058676.
Can anyone with cruise control on their Vee check what the correct number has to be ? If you lift the top cover between the dash and the steering wheel it should be visible. It is the part where the whipers and light controls are attached to. On top the label is clearly visible.
I allready found out that Renault uses other numbers to order the correct parts. I will be needing nr 7701051757, but I guess it won't be on the label...

Thanks in advance for your help ! [smilie=bowdown.gif]

Sound like a lot of trouble to go to, I just wedge my pedel flat to the floor and gogogogog LOL

However there are only a small number on companys that make slipring assemblys most of whom are German. The most common I have ever come accross are from http://www.ittcannon.com/

But they are bloody expensive your best bet would be to find some one scraping a 182 with cruse and swap it over.

Nothing beats using the pedal to make speed. I've even got two on my bike ! However I find it difficult to stay below legal speeds (on the highway at least), so I want to build in the cruise control for safety reasons (for my driver's license)...

Anyway, I want to use the original slipring assembly to be on the safe side. A new one costs 120 Euros at the dealer. Probably 25 Euros 2nd hand.
If only I had the ID number that is written on the label on the slipring...

As I could not find a second hand slip ring I bought a new one instead. I replaced it with the old one and... everything worked ! [smilie=cool.gif]
Well.. I didn't try my airbags yet... [smilie=drunken_smilie1.gif]
