ABS

As ever ABS has me curious again, I'm not to concerned about this as i will more than likely be dumping the abs anyway. When i press the pedal theres pretty much no brakes, the pedal is stiff, the hand brake light comes on and something like a motor can be heard rapidly tapping. What causes that to happen? What is the noise?

Again I'm not planning a repair or anything but I would like to understand it a bit better.

pull the abs fuse out

does the pedal vibrate? if so then the ABS is triggering.
dont disturb the pipe work around the ABS pump and reservour as there are huge pressures stored, enough for the brake fluid to pentrate skin.

it sure does mate, it does indeed vibrate, best not touch it for now till i depressurize it, how can that be done as this whole lot will be disconnected when im pulling out the subframe and engine...

you can pump away the pressure via the peddle with the ignition off?

btw if the peddle is triggering then you have a dodgy target? does the ABS pump up when you turn the ignition to the first click?

it does indeed, you can hear it pumping up alright

that would say that the pump is ok, aslong as it stops once everything is up to pressure.

nah doesnt stop anything, the pedal is virtually impossible to mash down, only thing slowing that car down is magnetic forces and gravity, once it gets to about 5 mph the brakes seem to stop it

I meant before you start the engine the pump should prime and pump the res up to pressure and then cut out... sounds like you might need to bleed everything, and/or your mastercylinder unit is screwed.

seeing as its the abs i imagine its the master cylender, no matter though, this is on the donor car which hopefully one day will find its way onto the road, not sporting abs i should imagine
