Hi all
This seems to be a common problem.

My ABS light on the dash is on all the time. ITV/MOT fail
The ABS doesnt work now. Used to work occasionaly
The hand brake light comes on when I brake using the foot brake?
I have read through the FAQ and I think i will start with re seating the ABS ecu.

Where is it ?

From there im going to check and clean the sensors and rings.
Are the sensors OK to take out and clean or are they quite fragile?
Wire brush on the rings ok ?

all help/tips welcome
ta

ABS unit is under the UK passenger seat. I guess its under your driving seat.

Sensors can be removed but you will break 4 out of 4 of them. So leave them be, do a continuity test on them with a multimeter to check for breaks in the wire.
Clean the rings with a brush and if you can be bothered paint on some rust curing solution and paint.

Just done my senors and rings.
Didnt take long 1hr 30mins easy enough no rust came out easy.

Front where Dirty cleaned them with a rag and some leccy contact cleaner (thats all I had)
Wire brushed the rings.looked good.

Rear ones a bit gummed up.cleaned up sweet
Wire brushed the rings.Again a bit dirtier then the front but once cleaned looked good.
all cables good nick.
Im lucky cause no rust and pretty clean underneath.

Sorry dan Im just back in and read you reply about not removing the sensors.

Im quite chuffed I done that myself actually:biggrin1:

Now have to check the ECU. Back soon cheers!

Can you get away with removing the ABS light for the ITV ?

yeah gonna have to if I cant fix.

Is that easy to do?

i think it was you in one of the ABS FAQ said that it was maybe that the ABS ECU
needed re seated.

Iv found the unit under the carpet box thing. I can lift the ECU out ?

Does it have to secured and earthed?
Sits in its place ok but probably moves about a wee bit if bumpy.

its under a furry carpet tile and only stays in place because its a good fit in the bracket. Theres only one big connector on it. Try reseating it - but unlikely to be the cause.

First off
when you turn on the ignition, does the abs light go out after a while?
when the abs light and hand brake light come on at the same time, it means the brake fluid is low

No mate Yellow ABS light on all the time never goes off.
Red handbrake light comes on when handbrake is on and when the handbrake is off the light goes off.
if I put my foot on the footbrake with the handbrake off the red light comes on again.
I have no ABS

ok
think you have 2 problems
if the abs light stays on all the time then its a sensor or abs ecu fault, if its just the targets then the light will go out and then come back on when moving.
if the hand brake light comes on without the abs light I guess it could be a faulty switch on the leaver
