21 Turbo 21T cambelt change

It's a pretty straight forward job, being a SOHC with locked pulleys, a decent local should be able to handle it - I can make sure you get the right bits and general guidance to pass along.

Hi Dave
That would be great please.
I have a couple of Alfa’s and use a really good local Italian car specialist for them so I mentioned it to them this afternoon and they said they will do it for me if I supply the parts.
Can you give me a shopping list of what I need and where from please!
Thanks

Believe it or not mate, amazon have quite a comprehensive catalogue of bits now and the best bit about them is they list all cross referencing part numbers.

Ive found the belts easy to come by but the tensioners not so....

Hi Dave
Any advice would be much appreciated!!!
Thanks
Sorry for the delay!

Gates timing belts are good, 115 teeth by 3/4 inch

Tensioner part number is 7700871168 and there is cheaper than this SKF one BUT I would recommend the SKF one.

Aux belt is a 994mm, 7701349594 I usually go for Dayco or Gates.

PS belt is a 750mm ish from memory, cant find the part number but this should work

Water pump (make sure it has the outlet for the Turbo water pipe on top)

Thermostat 7700722762 89° (Safrane ones run a bit cooler if you fancy that)

Oil I use 5w50 fully synth, you need 6.2L for a full change inc Filter

Oil filter get a genuine one if you can, 7700720978 Renault or Purflux.

Spark plugs use NGK TR7IX, set the gap to .55mm (I know, not cheap plugs, but you're gonna have to suck it up)

Gearbox oil use Tranself TRX80 or 75w80 synthetic.

Use OE Renault Type D coolant from a dealer or Prestone (buy the concentrate and mix yourself, far cheaper). The Prestone stuff will mix out with any other type of coolant if you ever get caught short, really good stuff.

Set the engine at TDC, use the mark above the SQUARE hole in the cam sprocket in line with the pointer on the FRONT timing belt cover (lines up with engine vertical/studs out the top of the rocker cover). Expect water pump bolts to break, they're a shit for it. Get new replacements, M7 x 1.0 thread. Don't lose the spacers or metal washers off the cambelt cover - and keep them in the right order. Remember to prime the engine on the starter before restart after the oil change as it has to fill the remote filter before you get oil pressure to the system. Just pull the king lead from the dizzy and crank it over.
