1.2 16v 2002 Clio QS5 - idle control

Alright Folks,

Never posted on this forum before so this is me popping my cherry.
I was looking for some advice info I have a 2002 clio 1.2 16v, it has recently started idling strangely used to sit at 1000 rpm, now it bounces between 1000rpm and 500 rpm. I have read on other sites that this a commmon issue with these wee motors, and to resolve it..The inlet manifold needs to come off the throttle body removed and the idle control valve (stepper) need cleaned with carb cleaner. I don't know how to do this, I got a hooky copy of the Renault software used by dealerships and it is vague at best. If anyone could advise how I do this and what I need gaskets etc..It would be much appreciated. The other thing it does is the engine management light comes on for a few days off for a few days. Where the loom comes out the bulk head it passed through a big square steel kinda cubic this seems to rattle about and has taken the plastic coating off the wires, I tilted it and managed to slide in some lecky tape... does anyone know what this chunky of mental is there for and can it be removed.

Over 30 mph the wee motor goes like a train, just low revs it shakes like a 70's Glasgow bus trying to mount a kangaroo.:|

Any advice/information/comments much appreciated.

Aw the best folks

I think you need 10 posts before you can pm.

Well that depends, my certification says I am superior to a mechanic if you want to get technical.

Alright Chris,

See how your a super mechanic, do you do homers..am looking to get this fixed and don't have the experience, I've worked on classic minis, Binis and Smart cars....the quote from Renault dealership was more like a small countries national dept. If your in Glasgow am just 25 minutes away. let me know what you think.

Cheers
