Clio 4RS Tuning Guide

Modern Clio 4RS Tuning Guide

Clio IV RS brief guide by @stockcliolol

This guide is based on proven results. For further details on the parts discussed, refer to the links below.
- Engine: The durability of a stock engine varies based on factors like track usage and daily driving, as well as the specific tune and torque curve, which are influenced by the type of turbo used. Generally, a Clio with 350ish bhp can withstand over 20 track days and still function well for semi-daily use.
- Gearbox: The gearbox is robust; the weak point is the dry clutch. For stock clutch limits, search for Ian Willacy in the group. Don't use my torque limits; my setup has different turbos and torque curves.
Upgraded Clutch: No complete upgraded clutches are available yet. However, you can purchase one with enhanced friction plates. For v1 plates, expect a +25% torque limit; for v2, it's +50%.

- Forged Engine Parts: For advanced queries on forged engine parts and stroker kits, join the Discord group, make sure you introduce yourself or they won't give much info:

- LSD: Drexler is race-tested; Quaife has no reviews of installation and how it performs.
- Clio cup race car steering rack: 49 00 131 30R & Clio Rally car 82 01 393 635, as shown in the attached IMG.
- Fitment: The 17x8 +45 wheel and 225/45/17 tire combo should fit most cars without scrubbing, whether they're lowered or not. For those seeking a wider front setup, a 17x8.5 +32 wheel with 245/40/17 tires can be used, but this will require a fender liner removal and a -3-degree camber adjustment. It's important to remember that lowering your vehicle excessively will alter these general fitment guidelines.
Remember to check the centre bore size when buying aftermarket wheels. EG: The OEM wheel centre bore is 66.1 mm, but the aftermarket tc105X wheels have a 73 mm centre bore. You must purchase 66.1-73 mm hub-centric rings for a proper fit.
Sticking to a 17x8 +45 wheel with a 225/45/17 tire is recommended. Note that you can theoretically fit even wider wheels and tires in the front by seeking professional alignment services from a motorsport workshop or doing it yourself if you have the knowledge and tools. Keep in mind that any change in wheel specifications will alter your vehicle's scrub radius, affecting its handling characteristics. Also, ensure there is sufficient clearance between your tires and suspension components to avoid issues.

- Shims: Before purchasing shims for rear alignment adjustments, it's crucial to get a professional alignment and understand your current numbers. Based on these figures, you can then choose shims to achieve the desired rear alignment changes.

It's generally not advisable to adjust the rear camber without also modifying the front camber, as this could lead to understeer. The only exception would be to correct the uneven factory rear alignment. Ideally, your rear camber should be about half of your front camber. However, I recommend inspecting rear tire wear to determine the appropriate amount of camber needed. Aim for 0 toe, can be + but not -, unless you have a thing for fwd drift.
