    Hi Guys,

    Thought i'd start a thread on my current build. I didn't plan on doing a build when i bought the 5, i just wanted to restore and enjoy it. But that soon changed after a track day and seeing some cars producing good boost i thought FTW and went for it haha.

    So here it is. FUDGE. The name strange….. The reason why is that i always wanted a Raider and when i was about 14 my cousins mate had one and he use to fly up the street and i fell in love straight away… his nick name FUDGE. He was the reason why i wanted one so thats how it got its title.

    I bought her a couple of years back from a lad in swindon and it was a solid motor. Drove it back with no issues at all. I also got the standard alloys from him in the sale.

    First thing was to get rid of the clear indicators front and side.

    The standard alloys were shot and needed refurbishing. There wasn't anyone local to help so had to send them off to Prestige or Pristine to get the work done.

    The car was lowered on springs so changed them over to GAZ Coilovers, keeping the ride height the same.

    Then i moved on to the interior. It had a monoco interior in it and I didn't like it i wanted the original Raider interior so Mike from GT Turbo Spares sorted me out.

    The Standard interior looks miles better and love the feel. They cleaned up really well.

    After that there was a few little jobs done. I did the Dials.

    The door cards are quite bad and need doing. This is on my to do list. Hoping to get them sent off to Pheonix motorsport for new door cards front and repaired rears.

    I soon got bored of the interior and decided to move back to the engine.

    The car was standard. The previous owner had but on a Cone air filter and RMD Intercooler. Low temp switch and a couple of boost hoses and that was it.

    I decided to get some new silicone hoses. The cheap ones from china and so far so good. They tidy up the bay no end from the OE ones. Also new expansion tank.

    I also bought the one pice down pipe from CGB as well as Zeitronic AFR gauge and stack boost gauge.

    The car had a K-TEC full system with oval slash back box i didn't like and wanted the 4" Scorpion. Which i bought and fitted. Sounds amazing on over run but in the end after a while i had a 2.5" turbo back system made and a 3" Rolled tailpipe made up from a local garage. The 3" Just sits better and i still get the same sounds.

    It was around this point after having the car for a year and a half i decided to go for big boost. So the parts started coming and the wife got angry…..

    First up was a new blower i went for the GT2560r with a .49 rear.

    Then i got the Piper 285 cam kit with adjustable vernier and springs. Alloy Carb top, Valeo green box clutch. New gaskets and bolts for all the head work. I got a cosworth 2wd intercooler but after discussing it with a few people i was advised to go bigger so managed to source a forge intercooler. hopefully it will do the trick. I wanted to keep the front bumper in tact and keep cutting the cross member to a minimum. Also a cosworth Airfilter.

    Once i had the majority of the parts i got to work.

    Had trouble getting this bolt out but managed. It was the only thing stopping me getting the clutch and flywheel off so i could get the engine on the stand. I'd hired the engine hoist and was running out of time. I thought i was going to have to ditch the engine and work on the deck but i managed to get it off and on the stand. Nightmare haha.     I had bought some Gunk engine degreaser and had a quick wash of the sump. It worked well and got the thickness off no problems. IMG_1868.jpg
    Then i tried a bit on the block, same results. works really well. IMG_1869.jpg IMG_1871.jpg
    A quick once over and it wasn't too bad. I've ordered some Frost POR15 paint to do the block so will be giving it another good clean before i paint it.

    With the engine out it was time to start the work. I'd never removed and installed a cam so didn't know where to start or how to degree it in. @briggsy came to my rescue. Stripped it down, fitted the cam, springs and vernier. With 114deg dialled in. IMG_1932.jpg IMG_1936.jpg IMG_1937.jpg
    Once the head was off i managed to give it a good clean and all looked well. New 90deg dizzy and alloy lobster top on. New blower mocked up. Massive compared to the standard T2. IMG_1938.jpg IMG_1939.jpg IMG_1943.jpg
    Also bought some Prima alloys for boosting standards will be saved for meets/show days.

    I have done more jobs on it and i could post hundreds of pics but i think this summarises up my journey so far.
    Next job is to post the fly wheel off to get lightened. Going for a 9 slot from CTM Performance.
    My list id growing daily but ill get there in the end.

    She's a solid motor and I can't wait to get it back on the road and boosting.
    I'll update as i go along for anyone who is interested.

    Looks like a great motor that ! What sort of power are you after ? Are you going to cheat and go EFI ?

    Cheers @andybond@andybond she is solid im lucky the body is solid. I'm hoping for 220bhp more of possible @Brigsy@Brigsy said this is easily achievable. Once she's tunning I'll be booking RR time at EFI to get it set up properly. I'm not going EFI no. This is not my daily so I'm not worried about reliability. If it was my daily then yes I prob would EFI.

    I do love a Raider.... :)

    Car looks great @Scott_higgy@Scott_higgy! Love reading build threads like these, gives me the itch to get out into the Garage and give my Raider some lovin! Speaking of which, that's exactly what I'm planning on doing this coming easter weekend :grin.gif:

    I still say Evotune was a bit of a pikey outfit, when i drove your car there was nothing wrong with it lol. Their afr gauge on the rollers said mine was richer than 10.0

    Yeah mate was a bit rough and ready ha! Like you say it pulled well and ran fine so was a bit gutted not to get a base line print out.

    Took deliver of some fresh parts today.

    Got my flywheel back which is now weighing 4.5kg. Also got a mocal 10 row oil cooler with the thermost sandwich plate. And the extra van rad.

    Going to have to wait a few weeks to fit them thanks to work but updates to follow.

    @andybond@andybond yeah mate been plodding on. Tbh I'm ready to drop the engine back in and hopefully be up and running in the next month.
    I've just swapped phones from iPhone to android and all my pics are on my old phone.

    I've got a couple though. New lightened flywheel, new clutch.

    Work done.
    Malpassi fpr fitted, new copper fuel lines, soft clutch, lightened flywheel, uprated clutch, mocal oil cooler.

    Mocked turbo and air filter up.

    Removed all redundant brackets.

    Sill a bit to do but getting there

    Cheers @Chris Sadler@Chris Sadler I got my raider wheels refurbished at a place called prestine or prestige I'll have to dig the invoice out. There wasnt a company near me who could mill the face back so sent it off to them. Great service and looked awesome when I got them back. They are back on the car. I prefer them over the willy alloys.

    Managed to put the engine in and put the turbo and air filter on so it can get the fmic and piping done.

    The car is off to get the fmic fitted while I'm away working so more progress to come.

    Fingers crossed the clutch etc is all in right because I don't fancy taking it out anytime soon. :negative.gif::negative.gif:
