Crazy power for a pushrod lawnmower lump.

Always amazes me the power they make, especially on the carb with such a tiny inlet.

As Mart has eluded to, the Alliance MPI Manifold are pretty rare. They do occasionally come up in wreckers yards in California. That's how I got mine after three years of looking! I did get SPI Manifold too, as I thought at the time the guy was selling an MPI Manifold. I still haven't had the car running on it yet, but hoefully soon.... ...anyway, here's a pic.

The MPI was only fitted to Californian models because of the 'smog' laws and MPI was the only way to get the emissions low enough. In all other states the cars were sold with SPI.

Good info! Wonder how many are left lurking out there in California....

That manifold reminds me of the uber-rare Peugeot 505 GTI J7R manifold. Same shape.

We got the 236BHP with the original inlet manifold, the idea was to produce a simple "bolt on" EFI kit which did not involve having to modify too much.
However for this season we are hoping for a bit more BHP and so have enlarged the air intake to hopefully make it breather better.

Removed the small intake on the inlet manifold and enlarged the intakes on the cylinder head.

Bob, that is looking really good. Why have drilled holes between runners 1 & 2 and 3 & 4?

    Hello Warren,
The drilled holes are where we have removed the internal webbing to open the inside of the manifold, the holes have now been welded up.

That's awesome. Obviously the biggest restriction with the OE Manifold is the small opening, but if you're going to open that up, you might as well remove as many restrictions as you can.

I found this while looking for something completely different. I can't read a thing, but the mods look interesting to say the least? Or do the lower/older models have this setup for their Manifold anyway?

Didn't mudslinger go round and round with a multi, individual throttle body set-up years ago?

    With not great results?

Although my memory is a little less than ideal.

That's right, we had a thread about the merits of a single throttle body as opposed to multi-TB. Mud couldn't get the multi-TB to work for him. Something to do with sealing I recall? I think people have a lot more experience these days and someone like Scoff could tune a multi-TB setup without a problem assuming sealing wasn't an issue.

The real question was what are the advantages of the multi-TB over a single and for most a single TB is more than adequate. Some WRC cars (Nissan Sunny GTIR) use multi-TB and this is done primarily for throttle response. There would be next to nothing in it as far as max power was concerned.

Obviously Multi-Point Injection (MPI) refers to an injector per cylinder as opposed to one or two shared between the four cylinders.

Multi-TB refers to a Throttle Valve per cylinder as opposed to one or two shared by the four cylinders.

You could of course have any combo of the above but the most common is Single TB and MPI.

I drove my old 200sx then jumped in a mates gti-r (similar setups) and didn't notice a real world difference. Maybe on the rally stage when you're on and off the throttle quickly, would it then become more apparent.?

I only did that in a burn out.

I'm trying Pulsar throttle bodies on my 21 lump :)

    Just for fun really.

I'm sure used in the right way on your 21, they'll be sweet - just driving 2x SR20s, one with single throttle, one with multiple, I didn't notice a huge difference (if any).

For ref: Both cars running circa 350hp.

And that's what it comes down to. On a Rally Stage where, like you say, you are adjusting the car with the Throttle, you might be able to say "the multi-TB felt a little better and I could push the car a little harder". For most, you wouldn't even know.

    Agreed.

Although, even on track I fail to see that one would 'adjust' that much mid corner - unless of course you suck and spend most your time in the kitty litter, which would resemble a gravel rally special stage.

P.s; I don't want to sound negative at all, its an awesome project.

I've been a fan of efi ever since Danny Fennel tried to sell me a 5th injector for my carb fed C1J...

The way i've adapted the ITB setup on as well, gives me eight injectors. I always wanted something with that setup, I know its unnecessary nowadays but it just yells old-skool-cool at me sooooo....why not!
