Yeah, that's what I wanted to do, thanks. Tbh I don't think the cups are any different going off all the other Renault cup series cars. A cam and more boost, possibly different pistons?
Not as much meat as I thought for massively increased valve size. Looks the the exhaust side could do with a good fettle!

Looking at the graph, there was a 2psi boost spike

  3. Andyquadra

My guy's squeezed in 2mm bigger inlet and 2mm bigger exhaust valves :)

    Haz Well-Known Member

Ah ok, so just a spike, it wasn't setup to run more but then tailed off?
Bigger is still bigger though, was there any tests done before/after the head work or were other things changed too so couldn't be done?

That has been altered over OE road car. There's a lump at the bottom of the exhaust port missing.

now you say that, the boost was controller via the ecu, probably was mapped to spike a bit just to get the power in

There's been zero progress since my last pics but the 21 is back in the garage. More painting is on hold while I sort out a few bits out. I'm hoping to get it 'mostly' sorted for its first event at retro show and as its held at Santa pod I may as well give it a few runs, and then I thought, I don't want to be going slower than my 5!
With that I'm going to have to make 250-260bhp. The std block and the bits I've used should do that but I'll need bigger injectors. Luckily I have mate with an Astra vxr who's upgrading bits and needs a hand with some body work :drinks.gif:.
I've done the bodywork on scoff's 5 a while back and as part of the deal I'd reserved an ecu for the 11, but as they can store and switch between 2 maps, I picked it up last week.
    image.jpg
With those sorted I planned to get back on with sorting the shell, but then I started doing some research.
I know there's lots of speculation as to what the std block can do and I'm not wanting to build a fancy engine yet but a cam is worthwhile, see cam thread. A billet is not an option, I can't warrant it this year at least so I'm going to see what piper can do with getting the std item as close to the specs I'm after, I just need to send the std item to confirm.
So I've pulled my spare head out to send off the cam to be measured.
    image.jpg
Oh. At least it can be measured!
On the hunt for another head and cam :help.gif:

I don't remember the head and cam being that goosed when the cup cam was measured so I've had a good rummage.
    image.jpg
Result! Head and cam no longer required. I'll add the specs to the cam thread when I'm done :)

Hopefully lots to happen this coming week although the job list fills and a4 sheet. A few alterations that's involved a little thought on aesthetics but should come together quickly.
I've moved the remote oil filter forwards, it needed new hoses anyway and allows easier access from below for oil changes
    image.jpg
Yet to receive the new oil lines.
Picked up a few off cuts of ali too. Made a mounting plate
    image.jpg
    Attached ecu
    image.jpg
And mounted into glove box for ease of access
    image.jpg
Hole in the back for the vac pipe and back in the car
    image.jpg
Loom to exit out of the rear of the glove box so I've enlarged the rubber boot behind the abs pump so that the loom runs along the chassis leg
    image.jpg
I'm wanting to be able to remove the ecu and loom if need be but not wanting to chop up the engine loom either so I've got a faulty ecu image.jpg
    That bit is not needed
    image.jpg
So I'll just keep these bits and wire the adapronic so it fits onto other 21's too or can go back to std ecu, simple plug and play

Didn't have much time this morning but got the qtr arch trims roughly shaped and bonded back on
    image.jpg

    image.jpg
    image.jpg
And the door strip bonded back on too

Sweet. We used the same method with the ecu pin out thing too initially. I think its still on Andy's car actually! I'll look tomorrow I'm going to haul the engine out with him in the morning =D
I hardwired mine in the end cos I aint going back to the OE unit for shit lol

Yes it is, but we couldn't get the injectors to fire correctly, so they were wired them straight into the ecu. It'll be all hard wired once finished

    any updates @Haz@Haz ?

Haha, maybe. I want to get a few pics to go with the write up between here and where the car is at now as I've just been bashing on and didn't take many. Soon though :grin.gif:

It's been a while I'd forgotten where I was up on here, so just a little to bring it up to date.
It seems this was leading up to an event so it was a bit manic and little pics were taken.
The qtr trims and strips were finished off

    image.jpg

Everything else was more tweaking for its first proper run. So off to pod we went.

    image.jpg

There and back with minimal fuss. Decided against running the car as it was overboosting but had a great weekend and came back with some much needed motivation.

A little concerned about the extra boost I thought I should whip the head off and check image.jpg

No issues, and the gasket was good. Luckily the other bits arrived the same day. Piper has made me a one off differing from the usual 270 they like to supply, just as an experiment

    image.jpg
So in they went, set to std timing for now. Still on std springs

    image.jpg
Once back on the car the cam was bedded in and then the injectors swapped for the Vauxhall vxr's and set about finishing the adaptronic loom. I decided against using the plug and play with the std empty ecu and hard wired it in. Scoff gave me a base map to get it running but it didn't run right, checked over what I'd done with no obvious faults so set about with other things.
Stickers to add 50bhp once it runs

    image.jpg

Some switches for future use, only launch control planned but I'll find something

    image.jpg

And finally got round the finishing the spoiler

    image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

I borrowed a laptop off a friend to see what was going on with the adaptronic file and a few texts with @DaveL485@DaveL485 it seems I had been given a map for a different flywheel pattern. I tried several settings to resolve it but as usual a quick call to scoff and it fired up once again, so booked it in for mapping.
I used the car daily for a few days but as per usual it wasn't happy.
The turbo has always been a little smokey on prolonged overrun and thinking the rollers would kill it off I looked into options.
The solutions was a local turbo place, a guy who used to work at Garrett. He's suggested a watercooled core, as the existing was only oil, new shafts and wheels and 360 thrust bearing. Balanced up and tested to my requirements, he says it's good for 420bhp+ so more than enough.

    image.jpg
The turbo and manifold are a little tatty looking so thought I'd bling it up

    image.jpg

So a little later than expected it had its initial mapping session at efi parts

    image.jpg

There was still a few teething problems that I hadn't sorted which worsened throughout the session, mainly clutch slip and getting hot as I hadn't really been pushing the car hard since being back on the road.
Mapped up to wastegate spring pressure of 7psi, creeps to 9psi as revs increase. It making 185bhp, peak power at 6300. Happy with that as a starting point.

Since the mapping session I've drilled the thermostat to help with bleeding.
Due the the bleed screw on the turbo outlet I need to have the header tank higher otherwise the level needs to be higher and didn't really cater for expansion so a simple bracket extender raising it into the extra space of the delta style bonnet

    image.jpg

    image.jpg

And for after the next mapping session a boost gauge

    image.jpg

I'm still yet to resolve the slipping clutch, dodgy first to second gear selection and now sidetracked with a leaky heater matrix, the joys!
