Well spent the day on the car yesterday old engine out new one in (new H/G and cambelt set not that it needed just for peace of mind) :) Sorry no pic's as I was strapped for time not a complete job as I have a few thing's to sort like the gearbox C clip that was damaged (yes I know get a better diff this is the next step but funds short at present will be done end next month hope this lasts until then :)

Just hope my current map will get this engine running with a few tweeks if need be :)

Managed to get a few hours in yesterday late afternoon to play with the car, finished off the boost run and got the ole timing gun out so I can set the ecu up for this engine, bit of fiddling with the map file and I got her to fire up :)

Excuse the smoke in the video that's just water in the back box burning off.

Honestly you don't want to know :-(

Firstly the video above I shortly after replaced the HG as it was blown :-( previous owner I have only had it idling, since then I have repaired and had the head skimmed but the car is suffering major coolant pressure to the point I can't drive it :-( I can only think the block has a hairline crack in it somewhere (no smoke, stat removed, new rad, bypassed turbo and heater matrix, bleed and bleed etc...) compression results are good 148-150psi across all 4, sniff test shows combustion gases in coolant.

Ive also picked up a 225 meg recently aswell that had no compression on cylinder 3, so I have decided to replace the engine, got hold of a decent used lump with lower miles, just awaiting a decat to arrive to fit before it goes back in

The thread name seems apt then @James5@James5

Why not put the Meg lump in the 5 ? 630cc injectors , TD04-15G , intercooler and say hello to 300hp and 300ibft.

I want more than 300bhp the f4rt is nice but my f7p is setup for over 300bhp well should see 420bhp to which is my turbo limit. The rest of the engine should take what I give it.

    That makes no sense.

Are all the spark plugs the exact same colour?

When you say the cooling system pressurises, does it trip the release and boil over?

All spark plug's are the same colour and look good. I have removed the stat, bypassed the turbo, bypassed the heater matrix, bleed and bleed the coolant system, fitted a brand new genuine renault water pump, replaced header tank with new one, no smoke and no loss of coolant (other than what I loose when I open cap) what happens is when the engine is warming up the car is fine but once warm the top rad hose feel's quiet hard (I know they hold about 15psi of pressure normally before it releases) but once warm if you hold the revs up it ballons to the point it looks like its going to explode the pipe :-( ive only driven the car from the yard to mine and back with no boost this is about 11miles max. (In that time I had to pull over as rad fan didn't kick in) opened header tank cap to relieve pressure coolant lowed around after than fan kicked in) I have lowered the rad fan activation on ecu for now.

Now I have replaced the H/G, had the head skimmed, new head bolts, torqued and angle tightened as per normal guides.

The F7p is prone to the cracking around the headbolts holes into the coolant water way's, these I made sure were cleaned out and nothing was left in the headbolt hole's and I went of over the threads aswell. Now don't forget I got the engine with what would appear to be a fecked headgasket on cylinder 1 (not that I knew this).

I have done a sniff test and it goes yellow, I also done the comp test on cold engine with throttle wide open and results really good which is confusing unless the crack only appears once warm. (Coops suffered the same issue and a block swap sorted his issue).

The coolant if I left the header cap off will boil over and out of it, I had a similair issue on the 1st engine I had which was down to a crap radiator, but my current rad is only 7-8months and in good condition.

Pic attached shows were they normally crack (although no cracks in this pic it's the read ones that crack).

Jeez. Not much for it other than getting the head pressure tested is there? Or was that done when you had it skimmed?

Tough one mate, the compression test should show a cylinder down if you have exhaust fumes in the cooling system. The only other scenario I could suggest is a crack behind an exhaust valve in the exhaust port/head somewhere. The valve is shut on a compression stroke so wouldnt drop compression, but the exhaust gasses being ejected from the engine have enough force to get through the crack. Bit "last resort guess" though.

Ok been a while, got frustrated with the meg so thought i would do some work on the F7pt lump so stripped it down,

You will see some hairline cracks around headbolt hole number 1, also the hg has got the hairline marks on it aswell. Fecking car.

Well thing's have been a little slow on the GTT side of thing's due to the fact I keep buying complete engine's that are apparently from running car's but as soon as I pull the heads off I am finding hairline cracks so no good to me. So that's the F7p blocks I have just as large paperweights and I have a nice collection of these. I managed to pickup an F7r megane bottom end yesterday that is perfect and crack free, only difference so far are the oil pump (chain driven) and the fact that my pistons are oversized they should fit the F7r block perfect may need some machine work to block for the clearance's but still it looks like I have my block :) so I will be running a 2.0 now instead of a 1.8

Ok ignore me back to square one I forgot the 2.0 crank had long throw so my pistons actually stick out the block by about 6mm :-(
