Nice site, found it whilst wandering around renospeeds R4 Gordini site. Wondering if there's any R5 van owners around to get advice from. I currently run one that is lowered with R5 turbo wheels and suspension but is dragged along by a 1.2ltr engine. So... any tips on an engine upgrade? Thanks in advance and look forward to seeing you all soon.

Jack, Realy like the van! Im sure but not certain that the extra van front end is basicaly a renault5 so the easiest upgrade would be the GT turbo engine or the 1.7 GTX engine. I was thinking of building one in the new year when my present lease runs out and have been looking at the 130bhp modern diesel engine from the megane!

GT Turbo engine and box will fit.

The extra is a renault 5 with a box on the back.

You could also try the GTX or monaco engine, or even a clio 16v, or Williams engine should fit with a little modification.

Thanks for the tip. I'm not so god with the spanners so I guess the safest option will be a 1.4 or 1.7cc engine from an old 5. Just got to source one, any tips when fitting that will safe me time and money.. and bruised knuckles? :?

I have a 1400cc R5 TXE engine and gearbox, just out of a car I broke for spares, if that is any use to you?

There's a van already done for sale on this site for only £500. Cheaper probably in the long run, get to the fun quicker and you end up with a spares van. Job done!

Thanks for the offer but have sourced a 1.7 from a GTX. I've decided to do it the hard way, that way I will know every horror that lurks beneath the bonnet.. I've gotta' learn.. and what better way of doing it? Have to say the £500 van seems a rather good deal though.. Hmm.. two vans.. Do ya' think I could sneak that one past the misses? Nah  Guess not.. I want to live a long life..
