Andy - love the Meggy - and I have a strong pull to get diesel and crank it up, but I love Fluffy too much. That down pipe is simply stunning

Just wait till you see the next set of mods. Pure porn on a car. Will get pics up when I get the car back.

The diesel 175 is prone for a bit of mapping fun. Change the turbo out , and cooler , deleted the DPF and you can get monster torque.

I bought my megane R26 direct from a dealer. I tried to buy it as a private sale , but the seller had quite literally just traded it in for a M5. The guy who traded it in was willing to give me the traders details so I called and was quite happy to find out that he was happy to sell it me for the price he gave the chap. I later found out the dealer is a manager of several f1 and f3 drivers. Small world !

Anyway , the megane had 32000 on the clock , was apparently a "stage 1 " car and had the center box chopped out to make it sound more aggressive and a remap.

The car certainly felt quick , but at Blyton National day 2 years back I stuck it on the rollers and got this :
I was a bit confused by it and though crap dyno and hot weather = low power. Couldnt explain the low torque though.

So a few weeks later off I toddled to RS Tuning in Leeds. Paul ran the car up on the dyno and we got virtually the same. He did some diagnostic runs and it appears that Stevie Wonder mapped my car. Paul did a remap , exactly the same hardware , nothing changed and we went from the above to the below

The car felt more alive. Reason for it being so crap was a really low AFR. Poor mapping basically.

    See ?

I didnt think I would ever want more power. I was wrong. I fitted a chinese intercooler ( dont mock them ! ) stuck on a decat and ended up with more power

    ic.jpg latest.jpg

The torque is capped at around 300ibft or the rods tend to bend. I might invest in some injectors and a different air filter system ( I have a panel in at the minute ) to get to 300hp , or I might just go for broke and forge the engine.

I have taken the car around track and chased down Brigsy + Wife in their Megane 225. Had some good fun !

Had a great day. Hope to do it again soon

The car is useless in the snow , so when it started snowing heavily and I was 76mi away I did panic a bit

I have a few images of it with the standard spoiler on. I hope to get my R26R spoiler painted soon , and wheels redone black as well.

They are pretty rare the Glacier Whites ( GW ) so when I spotted another I had to be sad and park up next to it

MPG is pretty good but does drop significantly when giving it sustained death.

Meg is away at the mo getting an ultra top secret mod. Will be back very soon and Ill get pics.

This is with an older map ( not the crap map ) just a pop and bang one. I had to have it removed due to extreme noise !

You can hear the clutch slipping on the last video . I have since had it changed to a helix clutch with custom SMF. Speak to Paul @ RStuning for more info on it. Epic clutch.

Hmmmm... Lovely car. This is the exact reason I joined this club, the opportunity to find out more about other cars and you've planed a little Megane seed in my mind now :joyful:

    Cannae beat a white R26 ;) ...
You need to get that R spoiler fitted Andy, it makes such a difference to the looks of the car, had mine done 3 years ago now.

Thats the plan mate. Just not had any time recently. Going for paint for the wheels , mirrors and rear spoiler too ..

I have the Black Gold Pearl mirrors on mine so I got the R spoiler done to match, I also got the vacant centre fixing hole welded up and sprayed. It does look good when done.
I also fitted a Clio RS200 steering wheel aswell ... its way better than the bog standard wheel the Megane got and think its the best thing I have done to it yet. It makes sitting behind the wheel of it more of an occasion.
I have this picture in my head that when Renaultsport finished the Meganesport some guy called Pier and another called Marcel were doing the final checks when Pier realised he had forgot to send the plans to get the sports steering wheel for the car approved, so with Stephen Marvin on his way to approve and sign off the car as complete and ready, Pier & Marcel knew they would be in trouble, so they grabbed a bog standard Megane wheel, wrapped abit of coloured thread round the top and hoped Mr Marvin wouldn't notice, and he obviously didn't, and that's my take on why the Clio RS's got a funky wheel and Megane RS's didn't !! ... Not sure how much truth there is to that though .. ;)

I must admit there are a few things like that.

The airbox for example. Its standard across the range ..
  18. roddy21t

    roddy21t Well-Known Member

Didn't know that, did they not do a test and found the OE airboxes to be rather good though ?
  19. andybond

    andybond Staff Member

No, its utter tosh ! Really limits the cars ability to breathe. Mine will be getting butchered soon , or maybe go ITG filter for it.
