Thats correck, OE setup on the factory loom is a dual speed affair. I wont go into detail, because you should sack it off altogether and build a new, relayed, fused loom before it catches fire :)

The most commonly failed part on a Renault 21 Turbo.
The top OE cooler is a choke point, as is the OE exhaust elbow. Once both are replaced you'll see a big difference overall.
No, smaller leaks are a far bigger risk than a complete boost loss. The turbo needs to produce boost to spin itself up (and this continues until the wastegate opens). If it never produces boost it'll never go very fast...if it does manage to pressure up the system to drive itself though, it can overspeed trying to make up for a small leak.
Let me know when you're ready, i'll get you in our little R21 Adaptronic club....gives you a few options with what to do (and gets you a good deal to boot)

Its always nice to see others talking about your car.

A pal told me mine was on a VW forum recently, I'd been spotted on way to Brands 2 weeks ago - it was billed the 'Ultimate retro stealth weapon' apparently.

Loved to read this thread. I just bought a ph1 21 Turbo 2Wd myself a few weeks ago. I will open a thread one of these days.
Do you go to FCS (French Car Show)by any chance in 2016? My son and i make the trip from Belgium to Castle Combe each year. We go with his 1991 Clio 16V each year but next year we'll take the Turbo

Welcome! Get your own thread up too :)

We were at FCS yes, there is usually someone from the club there.

So... Just for fun and to see if it could do it:
I can report that it coped very well indeed! My caravan probably weighs 1.1 tonnes. Felt nice and stable. Performance was severely hampered!

I wouldn't like to do a long trip, but local would be fine.

My Quadra's got a tow bar, stiffens up the back end!

Interesting! Some have said I should remove it...
I will leave it on then. It would be nice to have a lightweight camping trailer to tow - that would make for fun family camping holidays!

I used to tow the race Fuego on a trailer that myself and @DaveL485@DaveL485 own with it and I'll be leaving it on there, if the car ever sees the road again

    Thanks @andybond@andybond, it's been a while!

My EBS Renault 5 GT Turbo is still for sale. I'm going to wait for the New Year before actively pushing it, although if anyone's interested, please get in touch! It's really very rare and rather special. Only selling it due to personal circumstances. I've invested a lot of time, effort and expense in it!

Renault 21 Quadra is going well at the moment (although it scares me frequently with condensation in the oil). It doesn't get driven enough. I'm looking to get a leather interior for it as my partner doesn't like the smell of the velour. I think I may have found a decent interior - looking forward to fitting it. I haven't yet got round to having @DaveL485@DaveL485's turbo fitted as it's a larger project, needing a custom exhaust making. I have a Megasquirt ECU lined up for the car (yes, I know it's not an Adaptronic). It was cheap - I got it from a friend and I rather like the DIY nature of the ECU. I'm also looking to fit air con and have a potential source of all the bits I need!

Alpine A610 Turbo also going well - although it had a big problem recently caused by a thin film of oil in the distributor cap. Cue loads of backfiring, sounding like gunfire! Lots of fun but unpopular with the whole town...

I've also restarted work on the fuel computer project. The new speedo cable for the Quadra came without an electronic speed trigger, so I've decided to incorporate GPS speed into the computer. It's a bit tricky as I'm right up against the memory limit of the Arduino, but I'm hopeful I'll be able to do it. The advantages of GPS speed are multiple - completely accurate and not requiring calibration or altering between the cars. I'm going to build another computer for the A610 and hope to start offering them to members of the site.

And to replace the EBS I already bought and collected this:

Yes, I know it's not a Renault and yes, I know it's not sporty!! However, it really is rather nice. 58,000 miles. Six month dealer warranty. It's back at the dealer now having all the minor problems I uncovered fixed. I didn't get a pre-purchase inspection because I felt that the 6-month warranty plus my own personal (thorough) inspection should be enough - the warranty is underwritten by the dealer himself and "absolutely everything" is covered. We shall see if he's true to his words!

p.s. Gordini Turbo going well, now in storage for the winter. I briefly flirted with the idea of selling it too, but I like it too much!
Oh and my original 5 TL has been in storage for about 10 years. I am beginning to wonder about bringing it out. I bought some rather nice original "Soleil" wheels brand new. They should set the car off nicely. It's a shame to use them but I do have another brand new set in storage too ;-)

I also have a 123-Ignitions distributor ready to fit to the car. All it needs is recommissioning and it should be good to go! Fresh fluids all round, new tyres and wheels... Should be a day's work ;-)

When you dig the turbo out again could you put some pictures up of the housings and serial numbers please? Looking for a "Cossie" turbo but without having to destroy a manifold.

All sounds like great movement though.

Andy, want to sell the velour? I can and will collect

I have a cossie style one here from Amrits car, hes upgraded to a tubular manifold and GT2860. I'm sure he'd sell the whole Turbo, it wont be any use to him now.
